  • The beaches in Icmeler offer the perfect spot for a holiday filled with beach days. The gorgeous golden sands offer up sunbeds and stunning views, as well as plenty of restaurants and cafes for all you need.
  • 10 kilometres of glittering, Blue Flag awarded coastline in Marmaris is another popular pick. The stretch of sands here is lined with a 5-mile long promenade packed with vibrant cafes, pubs and restaurants, often offering their own sunbeds.
  • One of the world’s top beaches, and most photorgraped destination in Turkey, is also found here, in Olu Deniz. Stretching for 12 kilometres, the turquoise sea with its shallow shores and soft sands are a paradise for relaxation.

Things to do as a couple in Turkey

Holidays in Turkey are great for couples with plenty of things to do and incredible sights to see – but there are a few top highlights to add to your itinerary.

Family attractions in Turkey

Turkey is the ultiamte place for a family holiday, whether you’re looking for lazy beach days building sand castles, towns to stroll though with the little history buffs in tow, or adrenaline-fuelled parks to run wild.

  • The Mausoleum of Mausolus, found in Halicarnassus near Turgutreis, and the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, near the region of Izmir, are two of the Seven Wonders and certainly worth a visit. Explore these fascinating wonders and snap spectacular shots while the little ones gaze in fascination.
  • Hadrian’s Gate, in Antalya, is another impressive sight. Made from marble and granite, it was once part of the defensive walls used to protect the harbour, but today used as a port to get in and out of the city. The beautiful gardens and shaded park nearby are ideal for a stroll and picnic.
  • The Land of Legends theme park is the cherry on top. Enjoy the huge range of rollercoasters, water rides and animal attractions, with something for every age and every adrenaline level.

Food and drink in Turkey

A huge highlight for a holiday in Turkey is the delicious Turkish cuisine. Enjoy a fabulous blend of Mediterranean and Arabic flavours – and enough homemade raki to last a lifetime!

  • A traditional Turkish breakfast is a must-try. Made up of an assortment of breads (sweet and savoury), olives, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs and yoghurt, as well as Sucuk (traditional spicy sausage) it’s a delicious way to fuel you for your day.
  • There is a whole range of restaurants across the resorts from cheap and quick to formal and luxury, so there will be something for you. Even if you’re staying All Inclusive in Turkey, it’s great to venture out and try something new!
  • Turkish tea is an all-day favorite, especially with breakfast or after a hearty dinner. It’s brewed in a double teapot, with water boiling in the bottom and tea leaves brewing in the top from the steam, then it can be poured from both pots depending on the desired strength.
  • Turkey’s national drink is Raki, an anise-flavoured spirit. It’s commonly served diluted with water and sipped slowly over a meal or it can be enjoyed straight – although it is very strong at around 40-50% alcohol!

Nightlife in Turkey

Once the sun sets in Turkey, many resorts become anything but sleepy. Turkey’s nightlfie boasts everything from quiet waterfront couches to lively cocktail bars, all the way to neon-lit dance clubs.

  • You’ll find the louder nightlife in the more metropolitan towns like Kusadasi, Marmaris, Bodrum city and Antalya city. Nights of parting and cheap drinks – what could be better?
  • In particular, Marmaris’ nightlife offers two bar streets where the music is loud, the drinks are flowing and the dancing is unmatched! One is in the centre and one along the beach, but both are always full and always booming, plus, there’s always drinks offers on too.
  • Istanbul, being one of Turkey’s largest main cities, also offers bustling nightlife, mixing vibrant colours and loud music with culture and entertainment. Beyoglu is where you’ll find the main nightlife venues with streets packed with bars, tavernas and clubs.

Our favourite things about Turkey

Poppy's favourite thing about Turkey:

“If you love a good stroll in the sunshine, Marmaris promenade stretches for 12 kilometres with lively bars and restaurants on one side and the sand and clear Aegean Sea on the other. If you walk from Marmaris Marina to the other end at Icmeler it will take around 2 hours, but stopping off for a cocktail, ice cream or bite to eat is the best way to soak it all in!”

Best time to go to Turkey

Turkey is a destination that works pretty much all year round but there’s a few tricks to booking at the best time for you.

If you’re after the hottest weather and classic beach holiday feel, the peak summer months are your best bet – between June and September where you can expect temperatures 29°C and above. The sea is warm, the beach bars are buzzing and the waterparks and attractions are all in full swing.

For something cooler but still balmy, around 20°C to 25°C, April, May and October can often be the sweet spot. Enjoy the warm temperatures without the full intensity of the peak summer heat – great for families with young children, or for those looking to be out and about and exploring.

If you’re focused on value and a bargain deal, the quieter months outside of peak school holidays can often offer the best prices. Between November to March temperatures are cooler around 14°C to 19°C, ideal for sunny days sightseeing without toasting temperatures or bustling crowds.

The best months to go to Turkey can be between May to June and September. This is because the temepratures are hot – but not too hot – sitting in the late twenties and it’s not quite the peak season yet which means crowds won’t be as big and prices still a bit lower.

If you’re looking for the hottest temperatures, then July and August are the best months to go because temperatures can often soar into the thirties!

With temperatures still hovering around 20℃ in March, April and October, these can be the best months to go to Turkey if you’re planning on plenty of adventure, as the cooler temperatures can be better. These months are also known as the shoulder season (the months between the peak and off peak seasons) so you can tend to expect cheaper Turkey holiday deals.

Turkey is a great destination for a cheap holiday because there’s so much on offer, whether it’s family friendly, All Inclusive relaxation or picnics and sightseeing that you’re after.
