When was TUI founded?
In 2007 the travel side of TUI AG merged with First Choice Holidays PLC, a well-known travel brand that started in 1973. Since this merger, colleagues from across the businesses have worked together for the shared goal of bringing quality travel options to the public.
TUI has been recognised as a leader in sustainable tourism and works hard to factor in social and environmental considerations into its business goals, offering TUI Holidays that are second to none when it comes to quality and affordability. The overall mission statement: to do something remarkable, and help customers discover their smile through diverse travel options to countries across the globe.
With TUI Group offering a unique hotel portfolio, cruise lines, six European airlines available online and through travel agencies across Europe, there’s certainly plenty to smile about.
Why is Thomson now called TUI?
First launched in 1965, the Thomson Travel Group was created from a merging of Gaytours, Luxitours, Riviera and Skytours, to become the biggest travel company in Britain. In 2000 it became part of a German group called Preussag which itself rebranded as TUI in 2002. To give unity across the brands, in 2017 Thomson Holidays started trading as TUI UK with Thomson Cruises rebranded as Marella Cruises.
In rebranding as an international, rather than domestically recognised brand, TUI offers customers a wider breadth of product, offering everything from traditional bucket-and-spade holidays to luxury All Inclusive holidays and long-haul adventures.
With an award-winning airline, expansive product portfolio and high levels of customer service, TUI is one of the biggest UK holiday companies available for your holiday needs online, via their stores or 24/7 Holidayline, opening up a world of affordable travel experiences.
