If you’ve recently booked a holiday to Turkey, you may or may not be aware of their online visa. If not, let’s clear things up for you.

Do I need a visa to visit Turkey?

All British nationals require a visa to visit Turkey with the exception of cruise ship passengers. This is because cruise ships don’t usually visit a port for more than 72 hours.

This visa will be valid for multiple stays up to a maximum of 90 days in an 180-day period. However, if you’re planning a stay which exceeds the 90 days, you’ll have to apply for longer stay visa or get a residence permit.

From 2014, British citizens require an e-visa so they can travel to and within Turkey. Before this, British nationals could obtain their visa on arrival, usually in the form of a sticker or a piece of paper.

What is an e-visa?

In order to prevent long queues at the Turkish border, the e-visa was introduced. This way, you can apply for your Turkish holiday visa at home using the official Republic of Turkey e-visa website.

All you have to do is follow a few simple steps, fill out some essential information and make a payment. Then once you’ve done all of the above, download your visa and print it out.

This easy process can also be completed three months before the date you’re due to travel, so you’ve got plenty of time.

Are there any other regulations I need to be aware of?

The Turkish authorities advise that your passport should be valid for at least six months from your travel date. Your passport must also be valid for 60 days outside the expiry date of your Turkish visa.

It’s also important to make sure your passport has a blank page for the visa stamp. If it doesn’t, you’ll be given an ‘Entry-Exit form’ and your stamp will go on here instead. This will need to be shown to the border officers on your departure, so make sure you don’t lose it.

How much will an e-visa cost?

An e-visa costs $20, and you can pay for it using a debit or credit card.

Can I get an e-visa on arrival in Turkey?

From 29th October 2018, all e-visas must be purchased online before travelling to Turkey as stated by GOV.UK.

Turkish airports will no longer have the self-service e-visa kiosks and Wi-Fi areas where visitors can apply for an e-visa on arrival.

We would also recommend printing off a paper copy of your e-visa to avoid any delays on arrival in Turkey.

Can I apply for more than one visa at a time?

Yes, you can apply for more than one visa at a time through a family application. The maximum people you can create one for is 10, while the minimum is two.

When completing a family application, make sure all members are from the same country, have the same travel document and are travelling on the same date.

Just like a normal e-visa, you’ll only have to make one payment. Once the payment is made, you’ll be able to download all of the e-visas.

Now you’ve got all the information you need, your Turkey holiday will be a breeze.
