Skiathos Holidays - Travel Guide

The main attraction of Skiathos holidays is the abundance of excellent beaches along the island's coastline. On the south coast there is a seemingly endless series of sandy beaches including Koukounaries, backed by thick pine forest, it is recognised as one of the best looking beaches in the world. Skiathos also boasts the famous banana beach, so labelled in virtue of its curve of fine yellow sand.

Boats carry people between the beaches along the coast, making it possible to access some of the less accessible beaches and allowing you to hop from one beach to another. A Skiathos holiday can feature all manner of water sports, which are available at most of the beaches and there is even a diving centre.

The seafront in Skiathos Town features several cafés, tavernas and some exceptional seafood restaurants. It's certainly worth sampling the seafood on Skiathos holidays. You can enjoy the spoils of the crystal blue waters with a bottle of local wine in the vibrant marina area.

Skiathos holidays can involve some interesting historical sites with a short excursion to the north of the island at the ruined city of Kastro. The Evangelistria monastry, set in the hills surrounded by pine and cypress trees is in a beautiful and dramatic location and a nice place to take a stroll and soak up the atmosphere of Skiathos.

For the best nightlife head for Skiathos Town to enjoy a few drinks in harbour-side restaurants and bars. Skiathos holidays are not renowned for having a wild nightlife but like any Greece holiday there is ample entertainment in local venues around the resorts
