If you’re in Tunisia’s number-one beach town Hammemet, admire the walls of its famous medina with a group horseback ride along its 10-kilometre stretch of golden sand, or opt for something a little different with a camel ride instead. That’s not the only place you can ride these authentic animals, thanks to the closeness of the Saharan sands there’s plenty of desert safari trips available. Here you and the kids can venture into the ginormous sand pit, taking in views of the Salt Lake of Chott El Jerid and pyramid-like sand dunes along the way.
As for Sousse, along with its collection of ancient sights there’s plenty of water-based fun to be had for the whole family. Whether its jet skiing, parasailing or simply having a paddle there’s something for everyone to enjoy. For the shopaholic parents or teens, it’s also home to souks where you can take part in haggling fun for leather goods, arabesque-patterned ceramics or even gold jewellery.
For sun, sea, sand and countless activities, you can’t beat holidays to Skanes.
