A guide to things to do in Limassol

When you visit Limassol, you’ll have the chance to step back in time to an ancient era of legends and love stories – yet at the same time, you’ll be in one of the most diverse and modern cities that you’ll find during Cyprus holidays. Limassol is the island’s second largest city by population size, and there’s so much to see and do. Take a look at some of our highlights from this amazing Cypriot city.

Step back in time to ancient Kourion

This is one of the most famous archaeological treasures in Cyprus, also known as Curium. Grand plazas and columns from the Greco-Roman period stand proudly among mysterious crumbled walls. There’s a theatre area where up to 3,500 people would have sat in ancient times to watch performances, although these days you’ll be more taken in by the mosaics and the gorgeous view of the Mediterranean Sea, which rolls away in every direction from this antique clifftop site.

See the grandest castles in Cyprus

Although Larnaca is famous for being one of the most historically rich cities in Cyprus, Limassol has plenty to offer too. The castles within and around the city are well known for their stunning architecture and air of majesty, and there are always opportunities for visits and tours.

The stylish Mediterranean towers of Limassol Castle in the city’s Old Town is where England’s Richard the Lionheart wed his Queen, Berengaria of Navarre. Near the city is Kolossi Castle, which although perhaps smaller than its mighty name might suggest, is nevertheless a military stronghold from yesteryear favoured by the mysterious Knights Templar.

Feel love in the air at Aphrodite's Rock

Located between Limassol and Paphos, this is one site that really deserves your attention if you’re out enjoying the wildlife and beaches of Cyprus. This magnificent natural wonder has two mighty rocks rising from the sea, and is one of the most famous landscapes in the region, inspiring painters and poets alike. What’s more, it’s named for being the supposed place where Aphrodite first rose from the sea – and where else could you visit that’s famous for being so richly associated with the goddess of love and beauty?

Have water-soaked adventures at Fasouri Watermania

One of the most famous waterparks in Cyprus, Fasouri Watermania boasts some of the most crazy holiday hijinks this side of Ayia Napa. There are slides, chutes, fountains and wild rides to be had throughout this popular waterpark, although there are also plenty of loungers and spots to sunbathe if mum and dad get tired out.

Take your holiday off road

The scenic resorts and fantastic shopping are all well and good, but if you’re getting out of bustling Limassol for the day and explore all that Paphos holidays have to offer, seize the opportunity to take a 4×4 tour or rent one and drive across the rugged trails of the back country for yourself.

From safaris to cross country exploration, or even as a way to cruise the coastline with the wind in your hair, get behind the wheel of one of these beasts and get your pulse racing.

Wine and dine like never before

Cyprus has a rich history of vineyards and wineries that goes back centuries, and there are tours to be had if you’re curious about how these delicious vintages are crafted… or if you simply fancy tasting them all as you go.

Either way, don’t forget that Limassol boasts some of the best restaurants in Cyprus, from traditional taverna cuisine all the way through to barbecued American eats, French and Italian treats, or a good old English fry-up. After a delicious meal, head out to find your vibe of nightlife, whether it’s a cosy cocktail bar, beachfront night club or a good old fashioned pub.
