History And Directions For Durham Tees Valley Airport
Initially an RAF base the airport was closed in 1961, it was then purchased by Cleveland County Council and developed into a commercial airport, opening a passenger terminal in 1966, and it has since developed into a regional airport for the North East of England. Originally called Teesside International, the airport changed its name in 2004 to the now familiar Durham Tees Valley Airport.
The airport is located approximately 10km east of Darlington and 16km south- west of Middlesbrough. It is also 39km from Durham with easy access to Stockton, Hartlepool and Newcastle. Durham Tees Valley is situated on the A67 lying between the A1 and A19 North and South and travelling East to West the A66. It has rail links with Darlington and bus Service no 12 runs from the town centre to the airport and Service no 20 from Middlesbrough via surrounding villages. Darlington Railway Station also has trains linking Darlington to Newcastle, York, Edinburgh and London, and is a short bus ride from the airport.
Durham Tees Valley Airport is currently operating a Passenger Facility Fee (PFF) to help support the continued operation of the airport and to secure its future. This does not apply to any bookings made before the 1st November 2010.
