Edinburgh International Airport was voted one of the top 5 airports in Europe for customer services in 2010 by the Airports Council International (ACI) so you know your journey from Edinburgh Airport is going to get off to the best start possible. The airport is served by over 40 different airlines, flying to more than 100 destinations including New York, and handles approximately 9 million passengers every year. Low cost airline Easyjet recently announced three new routes from Edinburgh to include Tenerife and Grenoble along with Scotland's only direct route to Athens. Jet2.com also has twice weekly flights to Malaga in the Costa del Sol as part of their new summer 2011 programme.
Edinburgh International Airport is now owned and operated by BAA but was initially an RAF base when it first opened in 1915. The present terminal building was constructed in 1977 and a new control tower was completed in 2005. Edinburgh International Airport is located approximately 8 miles west of the city centre with easy access via the A8 or the M9 and M90 motorways. A regular bus service is available between the city centre and the airport and if travelling by rail, Waverley and Haymarket stations are located a short bus ride from the airport.
