'Amazing Journeys Start Here' is the slogan for Bristol Airport, and over 5 million passengers a year can testify to this. Bristol Airport officially opened in1930, at the time Bristol was only the third civil airport in the country. During World War II it was the only civil airport still in operation in the UK. In 1955 it was purchased by the Bristol Corporation. The new airport was called Bristol Lulsgate. The sixties saw an extension to the runway and terminal building and during the eighties, further expansion saw the airport go from strength to strength. From 1997 to 2010 the airport was known as Bristol International Airport and in March 2010 a rebranding exercise saw the airport renamed as Bristol Airport.
Bristol Airport is located approximately 8 miles south of Bristol city centre with access north or south via the M5 and east to west via the M4. National Express coaches operate throughout the South West and South Wales into Bristol Bus Station where you can connect with the Bristol Airport Flyer, which will deliver you directly to the terminal building. The nearest train station to Bristol Airport is Bristol Temple Meads where the Bristol Airport Flyer will connect you to the airport.
