Aberdeen Airport is Scotland's third largest airport and not only is it the gateway to some fantastic holiday destinations throughout Europe; it is also home to the world's busiest commercial heliport. The airport handles 3 million passengers a year, offers over 30 destinations and is served by more than 20 different airlines.
Aberdeen Airport was opened in 1934 initially to connect the northern isles with London and during the Second World War was used as an RAF base. During the 1970s the airport expanded and in 1977 with a 10 million pound investment a new passenger terminal was opened. There is easy access to the airport, signposted from the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, the airport being located on the A947 at Dyce. There is a regular bus service from Aberdeen city centre to the airport and a rail link at nearby Dyce station which is situated on the east coastline to Inverness.
