Not a Cruise Enthusiast? Visit Aswan
Aswan is yet another reason to visit Egypt. Situated away from the coral reefs and beaches of the Red Sea, it’s close to Sudan on the edge of the Nubian Desert and said to be the hottest city in the country – best to visit in winter! However, the stunning scenery across desert panoramas and the banks of Nile are breath-taking when viewed from the comfort of luxury resort-style swimming pools.
Aswan is also historically fascinating: the stone quarries of Swenet (Aswan of ancient times) supplied granitic rock called Syenite that furnished Egypt’s huge statues, obelisks, shrines and pyramids, and under every dynasty it acted as a garrison town, collecting tolls and customs for boats travelling along the Nile.
