Algeciras Holidays - An Authentic Spanish Fishing Port
Algeciras in Spain is a town in the west of the Costa del Sol, just across the bay from Gibraltar and only 9 miles from the northern tip of Morocco. Holidays in this authentic Spanish town present the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of a traditional Andalusian port and are a great base from which to visit Gibraltar or to catch the Algeciras to Morocco ferry. This amazingly short journey literally crosses the continental divide between Europe and Africa. Algeciras ferries also cross over to the Spanish North African territory of Ceuta, which has a 15th century cathedral and an impressive cosmopolitan feel.
Although many people overlook Algeciras as they are passing through on the way to Morocco, the town has plenty to offer in its own right and there is a lot to be said for booking into an Algeciras hotel and spending some time in the town. The historic old centre of Algeciras comprises 13th century Arabic baths and a mediaeval wall, along with numerous impressive 18th and 19th century buildings. There are also plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants in Algeciras, where you can soak up the Spanish atmosphere without the typical overstated tourist excesses.
