Greek island fun that won't break the bank
With an average flight time of around three and a half hours, Lefkas is ideal for those wanting a sun and sea break at a purse-friendly price.
Temperatures are warm throughout the year with June to August – the hottest months – offering sizzling heat. Dotted throughout the island are small villages, friendly tavernas and harbour-side restaurants serving authentic cuisine including the freshest catch of the day. The pretty village of Sivota is a great place to people watch by the harbour and there are a number of small shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. Head to Nidri for a lively atmosphere and bustling shops and bars or make full use of its road bridge, just north of the resort, which offers access to the Greek mainland where a host of historic treasures are just waiting to be explored.
The craft shops in Vasiliki are a delight to explore, while Nikiani is an ideal starting point from which to enjoy the surrounding countryside, decorated with olive trees and cypresses – pack a picnic and head off for an affordable day of outdoor living. Alternatively hop on a bus and head into nearby Lefkas Town to enjoy sights such as the 14th-century Fortress of Agia Marva.
