Lygia Holidays 2024/2025
Sitting on the north-east coast of Lefkas is the small fishing village of Lygia. With a population of under 1,000, it’s a quiet spot to enjoy the best of both sea and country. Tucked away within green rolling hills and featuring a marina area that has barely changed for years, staying in Lygia makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time. There are modern amenities available, however, with a small selection of modern cafes and shops for refreshments and essentials.

Lygia Holidays
Lygia’s pretty harbour is where some of the most beautiful views can be found and where you can get a real feel for the traditional way of life. Every day you can stroll down to the area to take in peaceful views across the sea. Watch as fishermen bring their painted boats into the harbour with a bounty of fresh fish on board, under the watch of the majestic surrounding mountains.
Head to the harbour
One of the most enjoyable things to do in Lygia is head down to the harbour or the pebble-and-sand beach to watch local life in action. It’s a relaxing area unaffected by modern development. You can also explore a strip of narrow beaches and small coves further south along the coast.
'Walk' up and appetite
Head up into the hills that surround Lygia and you’ll pass through beautiful cypress forests and olive groves on various walking trails. There are also rivers with delightful waterfalls to discover, such as at Episkopos, just under a 30-minute hike from the village. Another sub-half-hour walk is the elevated village of Katouna where you can stop for lunch at a taverna and enjoy fantastic views over the sea.
Wade into the water
Nidri is just a 15-minute drive south of Lygia and is the largest town on Lefkas. A lively and bustling resort, yet it retains much village-style character. Near the pebbled bay is a watersports centre where you can hire a motorboat or canoe and explore the clear blue waters. Take a ferry trip to the island of Meganissi and go snorkelling around the many coves.
Make time for some culture
Drive a few miles north and you’ll reach the island’s capital, Lefkas Town. Another harbour town with picturesque views of the sea and charming tavernas and bars, there’s plenty of history and culture on offer. Stroll round some of the numerous churches in the centre of town and be sure to visit the Archaeological Museum with displays of ancient objects that tell stories of the town’s past.
