A guide to nightlife in Kefalonia

More popular with families, couples and an older crowd, Kefalonia holidays are not necessarily known for their nightlife. Those after a wild night out would be best advised to head to one of the party hotspots, on MykonosRhodes or Corfu. The vibe on Kefalonia is much more laid-back than on its neighbouring islands, and the great bars and the occasional club scattered across the island cater to those wanting a relaxed evening with a lively atmosphere. Whether you want to unwind with a delicious cocktail, enjoy some traditional Greek entertainment or sing your heart out at karaoke during your holidays to Greece, Kefalonia has something to keep you entertained after dark.

Zanza Bar, Poros

Located on the beach in Poros, Zanza is renowned for top-level service and quirky interior decoration. With more than 40 cocktails to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find something to tickle your fancy, and staff pride themselves on going the extra mile to make sure guests have a memorable night. Pop music fans will be in their element with the soundtrack – the set list is filled with the most current tunes.

My Way Bar, Skala

When it comes to customer service, the staff at My Way Bar maintain remarkably high standards. Given that they welcome so many tourists through their doors year on year, it’s refreshing that Thanasis, Karen and Tom remember the name of customers that pays them a return visit. The outdoor garden is the perfect distraction for kids to run around in while older members of the party sample the best of the drinks list. TV screens show live sport and pub quizzes are hosted here on a weekly basis.

Captain's Bar, Skala

This bar, with endearingly bohemian decor, has staff that will greet you with a warm welcome on your arrival and make sure you want for nothing throughout your stay. The main bar area is where the party is, with loud background tunes and lots of people but the calmer terrace offers respite and some fresh air. The cocktail list is long and the measures are generous, to say the least. Come between 6pm and 9pm to cash in on happy hour.

Bass Club Cafe, Argostoli

By day, Bass lives up to the cafe part of its name, serving coffee, waffles and sandwiches just off the main square, and offering the perfect spot to people watch. Once the sun goes down, however, things really hot up as Bass Club transforms into one of the island’s most popular clubs. Live bands kick off the evening’s entertainment before DJs take over.

Kastro Club, Fiskardo

Kastro is only open during the month of August and is a bit of an insider’s secret, so we’ll let you in on it. When it opens up, you’ll be treated to a clubbing experience like no other. The imposing stone building which houses the club was once part of an old mine but today the towering palm trees surrounding its open-air dancefloor create a unique atmosphere.
