Protaras is a resort on the east coast of Cyprus about 9 miles north of Ayia Napa.

In contrast to the frenetic pace of Ayia Napa, holidays in Protaras are much more laidback, with more focus on enjoying the beach and the natural surroundings than the all night party atmosphere of Ayia Napa. At just under an hour from Larnaca airport, Protaras is a modern and well-equipped resort adjacent to four miles of golden sand, washed by warm turquoise water. The water is clean and safe for swimming, which makes Protaras holidays popular with families and there is a great selection of water sports available, including water skiing and jet skiing, snorkeling, diving and a host of others.

There is a water park nearby that proves popular with children of all ages. In addition to the main beaches such as Pernera there are a number of other smaller coves in the vicinity of Protaras where you can find some peace and quiet.

Protaras holidays are certainly not without their share of nightlife, with a good selection of bars, restaurants and discos providing entertainment for all the family. For a taste of authentic Cypriot culture during your Protaras holiday there are a number of small villages in the surrounding areas, where you can sit down in traditional tavernas and enjoy a meal or a drink. Heading south from Protaras you'll pass some of the ancient ruins in the region before reaching party central at Ayia Napa.
