Halkidiki is a peninsula stretching out from the mainland like three fingers. Mount Athos is home to several monasteries that are very strictly regulated to keep visitors to a minimum. Unfortunately no women are allowed and only a limited number of male visitors are granted access each year, and only if they have asked permission well in advance.

Kassandra has plenty of great beaches and the purpose built Halkidiki holiday resorts such as Sani have great facilities to make for an exciting holiday. Water sports are popular with many visitors as are the walking trails that traverse the pine-covered hills in the area.

The nearby city of Thessaloniki has a vibrant nightlife and good shopping and is a popular excursion on Halkidiki holidays. Sithonia is definitely the place to go for a more tranquil holiday experience where the unspoilt landscapes are quite magnificent.
