Spotlight On: RIU Cancun

If you’re thinking of heading to captivating Cancun in Mexico, then we’ve got a hotel that ticks all the boxes – from its prime location to its infinity pool, the RIU Cancun is a real winner.

A modern stay in Mexico

The exterior of this hotel may look like a giant book – but you’d be wise not to judge a book by its cover, as there’s so much to discover once you enter through its doors.

The whole design of this hotel is sleek and contemporary from start to finish, from its glistening lobby to its sleek stage and entertainment area, the hotel has a real smart feel to it.

Many other hotels in the area have a more ‘traditional’ Spanish feel to them, but the RIU Cancun evokes a clean, fresh feel to it.

The ‘pop’ of pink in the hotel’s rooms make your stay a bright and inviting one from the moment you arrive. And with your very own in-room drinks optic featuring locally branded spirits, you can keep the pre-dinner drinks going whilst you get ready!

Beachside Bliss

The hotel is situated on a gorgeous stretch of beach – you can go from being in the pool one minute to being on soft white sands the next. The colour of the sea here has to be seen to be believed – its iridescent blue shimmer is like something off a postcard.

And the temperature – wow! All year round this section of sea is pretty much like getting into a warm bath – you won’t want to get out!

There’s a section of the beach dedicated to beach volleyball if you fancy a game, and there’s also a small watersports pop up if you decide you want to make a bit of a splash at sea.

We’d always recommend the trip over to Isla Mujures, which lies just across the water from Cancun. The boat trip is a lot of fun and it’s a simply stunning spot to visit.

Pools for days

If you can tear yourself away from the beach, the hotel has a pretty perfect pool selection to choose from. The infinity pool, complete with an in-pool bar, has to be our favourite – where you can sip on your tequila sunrise whilst taking in all the views of the turquoise sea. What more could you want?

The hotel is known for being lively, but there’s still plenty of secluded spots where you can enjoy some peace and quiet. The adults-only pool around the other side of the hotel comes complete with a bubbling hot tub facing the beach, and is the perfect spot to sit with a good book and a cocktail.

Food full of flavour

The hotel’s 24 hour All Inclusive offering means your stay here will be full of flavour – there’s two buffet restaurants to choose from, with one turning into a steakhouse on an evening, as well as three a la cartes to choose from – an Italian, Asian, and the Kulinarium, a fantastic fusion offering.

And when you’re thirsty, you won’t be short on places to enjoy your favourite tipple – take your pick from the pool bar, the La Fiesta bar or the La Punta Bar.

Of course there’s the Sports Bar too, where you’ll find plenty of flat-screen TVs hosting the latest in sports games for you to watch, as well as being the go-to place for all your 24-hour snacks, like burgers, nachos and hotdogs.

Location, location, location

Many Mexico hotels can be slightly isolated and off-the-beaten track, where taxi journeys are needed to get into the more lively areas of town. But you certainly won’t have that issue here!

If you prefer where you stay to be within a stone’s reach of an array of restaurants, bars, and entertainment, then it really doesn’t get much better than this – everything you need is just a short stroll away.

The hotel is the perfect distance away from the main ‘strip’ of Cancun so that it feels like it’s in a quiet spot – but it’s actually only a quick 10-minute walk into the lively city centre.

Spoilt for choice

You might be All Inclusive at the RIU Cancun, but when in Mexico, you’ve got to eat and drink out a little! The tequila tasting opportunities alone are just too good to pass up. Just around the corner from the hotel, you’ve got all the eateries and bars you could wish for.

Restaurante Mextreme is just a five-minute walk away, serving up traditional Mexican dishes from its colourful terrace. Or if you prefer seafood, Isla Contoy is only 8 minutes’ walk away.

There’s a sublime selection of beachfront restaurants too, like Habaneros, where you can enjoy the tastiest tacos alongside views of the Caribbean sea. Win-win!

Nightlife like no other

Although the hotel has its very own Pacha nightclub within the hotel grounds, it’s literally just around the corner from everything Cancun has to offer on an evening, too.

It’s less than 10 minutes walk to Coco Bongo, arguably the most entertaining venue in all of Mexico, where you can enjoy a one-of-a-kind night out in the style of an amazing acrobatics show to all your favourite tunes.

Add that to nightclubs that draw in the biggest DJs from around the world, and you know you’re in for a treat. The City hosts some of the biggest names in music each week, but if you’re after something quieter, then there’s plenty of low-key places on the cards too.

You’ll find karaoke bars and bars playing live music all along the strip – so there really is something for everyone in Cancun.

Ready to Mexi-go?

For a hotel right in the heart of Cancun, we absolutely love the RIU Cancun and all it has to offer. Get ready for a fun-filled getaway in the most serene surroundings – a holiday here is one you’re sure to remember!
