What is there to do in Boa Vista?

Boa Vista might be laid-back, but there’s plenty to do when you fancy a break from the sunlounger – outdoor adventures are the islands forte.

Spend the day exploring the island’s 55 kilometres of coastline, from the huge dunes and golden sands of Praia de Chaves to the calmer waters around Sal Rei. The beaches are also great for snorkelling and diving, with colourful marine life and shipwrecks to discover.

If you’re feeling adventurous, take a quad bike or 4×4 tour across Boa Vista’s desert-like landscape. You can head into the dunes, visit remote beaches and discover parts of the island that are difficult to reach by car.

The wildlife is another big draw for holidays in Boa Vista. Loggerhead turtles come ashore to nest between roughly June and October, while humpback whales can be spotted on boat trips, particularly between February and May, both of which are incredible sights if you’re lucky enough to experience it.
