Why You Should Visit These Canary Island Beaches

The Canary Islands have been hitting the spot for holidaymakers for many years now, and with excellent year-round weather it’s a great destination whatever month you plan to travel. The Canary Islands are known for a number of things from their beautiful scenery, volcanic landscapes, and not forgetting their fair share of beautiful beaches. So, let’s take a look at some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands.

Lanzarote

Located in the National park Los Ajaches, and not too far from the resort of Playa Blanca, you’ll find a selection of natural beaches and coves which offer shimmering crystal clear waters that are great for a spot of snorkelling. So why not pack a tasty picnic, pick your spot and chill out by the sea? But please be mindful that clothing is optional on some of these beaches.

Playa de Famara is located on the north-west coast of Lanzarote, and despite being a surfer’s paradise, it never seems overcrowded. Numerous surfing championships take place throughout the year, so if you’re a keen surfer, windsurfer, or enjoy a spot of kiteboarding this could be the place for you. However, if this sounds too energetic, you could always go along just to spectate.

Fuerteventura

On the west coast of Fuerteventura you’ll find the small fishing village of El Cotillo, which is home to some beautiful beaches. These lagoon beaches are excellent for spotting marine life and great for children with their safe clear waters.

Jandia is located on the south coast of Fuerteventura and plays host to some of the best beaches on the island. Endless miles of sandy beaches and a gentle breeze make this beach a great spot for windsurfers. Clothes are also optional on some of these beaches.

Gran Canaria

With a magnificent backdrop of sand dunes, Maspalomas beach stretches as far as the resort Playa del Ingles. This makes it a great place for a stroll along the beach where you’ll be able to take in the islands beautiful scenery along the way.

Puerto Rico beach offers a crescent of golden sand and calm waters which is backed by a promenade with bars. This relaxing beach is a great place for families to spend the day.

Tenerife

Los Cristianos beach front has a trendy cosmopolitan feel to it. The beach itself  has a fantastic view of the harbour which offers daily boat excursions. Here the calm sea gently laps the golden shores.

Found in the north of Tenerife, not far from the resort of Santa Cruz, Las Teresitas beach is one of Tenerife’s hidden gems. Shaded with palm trees and a lush green backdrop, it’s a perfect location for a day at the beach.
