The Best Theme Parks in the World

We all love a gorgeous getaway where we can relax and unwind. But do you like to sprinkle in a bit of action and adventure too? Say no more!

We’ve rounded up what we think are some of the best theme parks in the world, in some of our favourite holiday destinations. Whether you fancy staying in the sunshine in close-to-home Spain or venturing far and wide to the likes of fantastic Florida, we’ve got just the adrenaline-pumping parks for you.

Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida

We thought we’d start by pulling out the big guns – Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is nothing short of a giant playground, for adults and kids. Boasting a grand total of four theme parks – Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios – you’ll need a good few days to make the most of everything here.

Get ready to have a blast on family friendly rides, seeing amazing parade performances from all your favourite Disney characters, and witnessing fantastic fireworks displays like you’ve never seen them before.

You’ll discover one-of-a-kind rides, rollercoasters and experiences, from the amazing world of Avatar in Animal Kingdom to the spectacular Soaring at Epcot. You’ll be overcome with nostalgia as you make your way through Cinderella’s Castle, posing for pictures with everyone’s favourites – Mickey and Minnie!

Whether you’re the world’s biggest Disney fan or it’s all new to you, you can’t fail to be amazed by this exciting world. Feel immersed in terrific films from Toy Story to Star Wars, and no matter your age, feel like a big kid once again. It’s a truly magical place!

Universal Orlando Resort, Florida

If you’re movie buff, Universal Studios Florida is the one for you. Step into the wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter and take on rides built into Hogwarts itself, not to mention Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – talk about a thrill!

You’ll also be fully immersed into other film sets, like The Mummy, The Fast and the Furious and even Transformers (where you’ll meet Optimus Prime himself!). Universal Orlando Resort comprises of two parks, Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure, as well as a waterpark, Volcano Bay.

Take a walk through The Simpsons section and grab some snacks at the Kwik-e-Mart, battle your way past aliens on the Men In Black ride and strap in for an epic adventure on the E.T experience. And you can’t miss out on the mind-blowing Jurassic Park ride!

You’ll feel like a movie star from the moment you step through the park doors – and you’ll come away with memories that will last a lifetime!

PortAventura, Spain

If you want action and adventure a little closer to home, then PortAventura in Spain is a no-brainer – it’s known for being home to the most thrilling and exciting rides in Europe.

Red Force in Ferrari Land stands at 112 metres tall and boasts a top speed of 112 mph – now that’s fast! It’s Europe’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster, and it’s sure to test the nerves of even the most seasoned theme park lovers.

If your nerves survive that, there’s still more adrenaline up for grabs – the intimidating ride Hurakan Condor looms over the park, serving up a 100 metre free fall to those that dare to be taken to the top! It’s certainly not one for the faint hearted.

Dragon Khan is another favourite, with an unbelievable eight loops which you’ll pass through in just over a minute. Its impressive appearance has made it the symbol of this park and one of the most iconic amusements in all of Spain.

Being located close to beautiful Barcelona, it’s the perfect day out during a spectacular city break there. Think culture and sangria one day, crazy rides the next!

Disneyland Paris, France

If you want all the magic of Disney without travelling all the way to Florida, then Disneyland Paris in France is just the ticket!

The most visited theme park in Europe, it clocks up nearly 10 million visitors each year and is spread across two parks in Marne-la-Valee, just a stone’s throw away from the French capital.

Feel like a superhero on the Avengers Assemble: Flight Force ride, and enter a whole new galaxy as you strap in to the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain rollercoaster. Just remember to hold on tight!

It’s an amazing place for all ages, from toddlers who will love going on Dumbo the Flying Elephant to teenagers shooting on Buzz Lightyear’s Lazer Blast.

There’s so much more than just rides on offer too – take a stroll through the passageways of Agrabah and make your own wishes come true in Le Passage Enchante d’ Aladdin. Or wander through your own adventure and discover whether you can make it to the Queen of Heart’s Castle in Alice’s Curious Labyrinth in Wonderland!

This park may be smaller than its American sister, but it’s certainly not short on enchanting experiences. A perfect short-break and a must visit!

Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen

If you’re looking for a theme park that’s a little different, Tivoli Gardens in colourful Copenhagen in Denmark is just the ticket.

It first opened in 1843, so it has seemingly stood the test of time! Sitting right in the centre of the city, it’s the perfect place to head to during your Copenhagen city break for day of laughs, experiences and adventure.

You’ll be enraptured by the playful atmosphere of this park – you’ll discover a range of rides for you to hop on as well as games to partake in, musical displays, gorgeous gardens to explore and even concerts. It’s non-stop fun!

Best of all, you can experience the magic all year round – the Tivoli Gardens the park is situated in transforms beautifully all throughout the year, from the early spring flower fields to the autumnal colours of fall and even the festive decorations of Christmas.

The Land of Legends, Turkey

If your idea of heaven is adding a sizzling summer holiday to adrenaline-pumping activities, then this theme park and hotel in Turkey is exactly what you’ve been looking for!

Located just 10 minutes’ drive from Belek’s beautiful town centre, Land of Legends is the biggest theme park in Turkey. It brings the best of both worlds – ridiculously high rollercoasters and a waterpark bursting at the seams with wicked waterslides, perfect for when you need to cool down in the toasty Turkish heat.

You can visit the park on its own if you choose to stay somewhere else in the area, but we’d recommend staying at The Land of Legends Kingdom Hotel – as you’ll get free access to both the theme park and waterpark for your whole stay! That gives you plenty of time to discover your favourite rides and have a blast going on them again and again.

Touch the sky in the 62-metre high Hyper Coaster or become a water astronaut on the Space Rocket waterslide. You can even opt for amazing extra experiences like swimming with dolphins, too!
