BB, CC and DD – they’re all-in-one skincare wonder creams that contain foundation and SPF to give you a summer glow and protect your skin at the same time. BB creams provide the lightest coverage of the three, so are ideal for everyday use where you don’t want to cleanse, tone, moisturise then apply make-up on a busy morning. Although, you can use them as a base to build you make-up on, so they’re flexible too.
Standing for Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm, BB creams first became popular in Korea, where flawless, reflective skin is the goal, but have now taken the world by storm due to their convenience and all-encompassing nature. Stripped back, BBs are basically a tinted moisturiser, but depending on which one you get they can be packed with added advantages, such as hyaluronic acid and antioxidants to regenerate skin.
Most BB creams contain some kind of sun protection, others will even out skin tone, provide anti-ageing benefits and give that dewy finish we all crave. So which one to go for depends on what you want from your product and your budget – generally speaking, the more you’re willing to pay, the more benefits you’ll get.
Here are some of the best BB creams available to leave you glowing, quite literally. We’re sure there’s one out there for you.
This super-affordable cream, that is described by Rimmel as Super Makeup, has an SPF of 25. The nine benefits are that it primes, moisturises, minimises pores, conceals, covers, smoothes, mattifies, brightens, and helps protect. Available in medium, light and very light – it’s yours for a snip at £6.99.
Never one to be outdone on the makeup front, Boots brand No7 has a range of BB creams that are tailored to your skin type, from very dry to oily, each coming in two shades. Its nutrient-enriched formula helps to banish blemishes and it has a good level of SPF 15 as well as all-important 5-star UVA technology. This mid-range cream costs £13.50.
The water in the name refers to the cream’s hydrating qualities and liquid-silk consistency which allows even and light coverage. What’s really good about Smashbox Camera Ready is that it comes in eight shades to match with lots of skin tones. You only need two to three drops of this to cover skin discolouration and Smashbox says it lasts from am to after hours. It costs £29 and has SPF 30 built in.
