Enjoy a taste of All Inclusive luxury on Mexico's Riviera Maya

It takes on average 10 hours to fly to Riviera Maya, and with average January temperatures of around 23°C soaring up to around 28°C in June, a sun-tan is pretty much guaranteed.

Situated on Mexico’s Yucutan Peninsula, Riviera Maya is famous for its beaches and it also has one of the world’s largest barrier reefs, making it the ideal spot for snorkelling and diving. Underwater exploration will reveal a rainbow of natural treasures such as 100 types of coral, angelfish and parrotfish, to name but a few.

Intriguing sightseeing opportunities await beyond the beaches, and a daytrip to the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum is top of holidaymakers’ to-do lists. Further along the coast are other mysterious and iconic sites such as Chichen Itza, with its impressive pyramid brought to life each evening through sound and light shows.

Riviera Maya incorporates two main resorts, both of course have incredible beaches, and Playa del Carmen in the north has a thriving nightlife alongside the daily beach pursuits, watersports and shopping malls. Playacar by contrast is a quiet, gated community with an 18-hole golf course, upmarket shopping mall and a host of All Inclusive hotels.

Nearby beaches

Sightseeing aside, holidays to Riviera Maya are all about the beaches, and as soon as your feet slowly sink into the sands and you see the impossibly translucent waters, you’ll understand why. Central Akumal is a popular spot and has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants back from the beach.

Playa Maroma features a tranquil alternative from the busier beaches and is situated slightly north of Playa del Carmen, while Playa del Carmen beach itself has both busy and quiet sections. Playa Paraiso is another top choice with dazzling sands and a laid-back vibe – it’s located just south of Tulum’s Maya ruins too so visitors can combine a morning of sightseeing with an afternoon of sun worshipping.
