A guide to the best restaurants in Lourdas

Lourdas is a village destination that boasts a good range of local restaurants and tavernas. Many of which are family-run and offer locally-sourced meat, fish and vegetables as well as island-made wine. You’ll find proper Greek fare here, including Kefalonian meat pie, feta salads and moussaka. Explore our top ten at your leisure, for a long, lazy lunch or moreish evening meal during your holidays in Kefalonia.

Experience magic at Lorraine's Magic Hill

Lorraine’s Magic Hill is a family-run restaurant overlooking the stunning Lourdas beach. Lorraine herself is a quirky character, and should you visit twice she’s bound to remember you. Offering a good selection of traditional meat and vegetarian dishes, our top picks include the stuffed vine leaves and goat kirimikato. Save room for dessert – Greek milk pudding with a sprinkle of ‘fairy dust’ if you’re lucky.

Breakfast and snacks at Muses Cafe bar

This spotless cafe is a go-to place for breakfast and snacks throughout the day. Hidden away from the road, diners can choose to sit inside or enjoy the garden. They do a nice English breakfast, light omelettes, soft ice-cream and very chocolatey brownies.

Good all-rounder at the Olive Lounge

Considered by many to be the best restaurant in Lourdas, the Olive Lounge offers hearty Greek dishes like lamb kleftiko and moussaka in a relaxed setting with beautiful views. They do a good local sausage and scrummy apple pie, all washed down with a well-rounded house wine!

Family-run at Enastron

Officially Enastron is in Trapazaki rather than Lourdas, but it’s so good we had to include it. A short taxi ride from Lourdas, Enastron is more than a family-run taverna, because the owners make diners feel like family too. Get there early to nab a balcony table and rest-easy knowing that the kids will be entertained with the small play area. It’s also the best place around for Kefalonia meat pie.

A night of entertainment at Andromeda

Andromeda Restaurant is a popular venue for wedding receptions and other occasions, so there’s special something in the air that rubs off on anyone who visits. As well as an extensive menu featuring Greek and international dishes they often host live music and events, making it a great spot for entertainment during your Greece holidays in this otherwise sleepy village.

Secret garden at Klimatis

This restaurant lives up to its floral namesake, being set in a beautiful garden and offering a colourful variety of vibrant meals. Try the courgette balls with tzatziki, goat stew and spicy salad. With gorgeous views out to sea, you might even spot the neighbouring island of Zante on a clear day.

Seafood platter at La Mer

If you manage to get a balcony table, La Mer is a beautiful spot to watch the sunset of an evening. Kefalonia is known for excellent seafood, so of course you’ll want to try the huge seafood platter at La Mer. It’s also one of the few restaurants around that has a strict no smoking policy, with diners instead preferring to indulge in an ice cold beer.

Homely fare at Spiros

Spiros is not the place for those looking for fine dining, but it can offer homely and wholesome traditional Greek food cooked by one of the friendliest chefs in all of Lourdas. It’s a short walk out of town but offers great views and excellent service once you get there.

Greek and pizza at Dionysos Taverna

Dionysos offers pizza and traditional Greek cuisine as well as making yummy burgers. The pizzas are available to take back to your hotel, or the beach if you prefer. The restaurant is up a hill so tends to be frequented by those staying nearby, giving it an intimate, local feeling.

Little fish at Lithero

A small restaurant serving locally-sourced, fresh fish, Lithero offers more stunning views direct out to sea. Try the grilled sardines and barbecued king prawns, both served with quite possibly the best chips you’ll find in the area. It’s a friendly little place, unless you’re a health-conscious vegetarian, as the only vegetables are tempura.
