Here you can stretch out on one of the town’s two beaches and indulge in some serious rest and relaxation. The beaches are lined with traditional tavernas, bars and shops, and after dark St George South maintains its laid-back lifestyle but with a slightly more upbeat edge.

Two beautiful beaches
There are two main beaches in St George South – Issos Beach and Golden Beach – which are separated by a line of rocks and a harbour. Issos Beach is located on the northern side of town, where there’s a large cluster of tavernas, bars and shops. Down on the southern end is Golden Beach, where things run on the subdued side and are more spread out. This beach has been known to have stronger winds and current, so if you’re travelling with kids, Issos might be your best bet.
Each of the beaches come ready with rows of sun loungers for hire, as relaxing is the main activity on this stretch of the island. Most of the hotels and apartments here also offer free use of the sunbeds and parasols lining their pools – not to mention their pool-side bars – so you’ll have limitless options in the ways of lounging.
Water sport central
Lazy days along the beach are top of the list in St George South. Things here largely move at a slower pace of life, but can be cranked up if necessary. Both beaches in St George South are teeming with water sports, with adrenaline-lovers coursing through the waves on banana boats, windsurfing, parasailing through the air or gliding by on a leisurely pedalo ride.
To the north of town are sand dunes and Lake Korission, where, in the spring and summer months, migratory birds gather. It’s a picturesque inland lake that provides scenic hikes, though it can be marshy at times so ensure you bring good hiking shoes if you plan to trek this way.

St George South is host to an array of tavernas dishing up international cuisine and traditional Greek eats. The local fare is heavy on seafood, lamb and chicken, though vegetarians will find a few veggie options on most menus.
Casual nights with an energetic twist
Nightlife in St George South is largely laid-back, with most bars doubling as tavernas in the daytime. That said, many become lively in their own ways, with karaoke nights, pub quizzes, ‘Greek Nights’ with traditional clothes and dancing, plus happy hours that often extend far into the evening.
Stamatis is the largest bar in St George South, and offers nightly quizzes, Sky Sports on TV and a range of English draught beers. And when we say the nightlife is ‘largely laid-back,’ this isn’t always true – some nights in town have been known to go until six in the morning.
Nearby Kavos
Located only a 20-minute cab ride away from St George South, the seaside village of Kavos offers the vibrant energy necessary for a big night out. The town has become more and more popular beginning in the eighties, when it was established as Corfu’s party capital.
Now, days at Kavos are spent lounging along the beach or partaking in watersports further out to sea, while bars and clubs are frequented at night. The main club strip runs parallel to the shores, so after you’ve danced yourself sore, you can end the night – or morning, really – with views of the sunrise from the beach.
