Stunning natural surroundings and an easy pace

The village of Vrsar lies on the beautiful coastline of the Adriatic, surrounded by vineyards and rural countryside. Close to the shoreline there’s an archipelago of 18 uninhabited islands, stretching out gracefully as you look out to sea. In Vrsar you can spend the day quietly immersed in nature, or do some hiking and follow winding nature trails into the lush landscape.

Vrsar has several Blue Flag awarded beaches where you’ll find excellent facilities, including Bijela Uvala – a small, rocky beach with swimming platforms where you can sunbathe, take in the views and have a dip in the sea. In the evenings, you’ll also have the chance to enjoy some amazing sunsets.

You may find it useful to know the area is popular with naturists, as one of the world’s first and largest naturist camps is located just south of Vrsar village at Koversada.

Take in the boats at luxurious Vrsar Marina

The luxurious Vrsar Marina is regarded as one of the best on the eastern Adriatic coast and is a lively hub of nautical activity. There are several fun events held in and around the marina throughout the year, such as the St Martin’s Festival of Gastronomy and The Croatian Boat Fishing Championships.

Vrsar is also highly regarded for its local cuisine. You’ll be able to sample traditional Croatian specialities in the local restaurants that line the marina, featuring fresh fish and meat dishes cooked in olive oil and lightly seasoned. As Vrsar is in the centre of a prolific wine-making region, there are also plenty of delicious regional wines available to accompany your meals.

Explore the history and take in the spectacular views

The village of Vrsar dates back to the Middle Ages and retains a wealth of interesting historical sites and architecture, including the Romanesque summer castle of the Porec Bishops. The village centre is a charming mix of criss-crossing narrow lanes, small squares and balconies. Its location on the slopes of a hillside also means there are several superb viewpoints where you can enjoy panoramic views across the countryside and out over the Adriatic.

One of the best viewpoints lies just beneath the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, close to the Small Gate of Vrsar. Here you’ll find an intimate square to enjoy fantastic views towards the southwest of the village. If you’d prefer a bird’s eye view, head to the tallest building in Vrsar, the bell tower. From here you’ll get stunning views above the Basilica of Saint Euphemia, the islands of Vrsar and the surrounding hills.

Discover the islands, underground caves and tranquil countryside

If you enjoy walks in the countryside or bike rides along quiet, rural lanes, you’ll find plenty to see and do between beach days in Vrsar. You can also take a day trip to Vrsar’s biggest offshore island, Sveti Juraj – or St. George Island – which is one of the most spectacular natural features in the area.

The region is also known as one of the best places in Croatia to explore the fascinating world of underground caves. Vrsar has its own amazing Romuald Cave, which is of particular interest due to evidence discovered of human habitation during the Early Stone Age. Its recent history is equally as interesting, as the cave is named after the Saint who lived in it for three years to spend time in prayer and meditation.

Vrsar offers a peaceful holiday destination in stunning natural surroundings. Here you’ll find an easy pace of life and plenty of space to find your own secluded spot.
