The pretty town is made up of narrow streets lined with pastel-coloured houses and churches and peaceful squares for people-watching. Running through Lefkimi is a canal with a range of restaurants, bars and shops above it on either side, providing picturesque views as you dine and relax. Down the river and by the harbour are attractive stretches of beach.
A different activity for every day
There are numerous beautiful churches in Lefkimi, with many featuring impressive architecture and fantastic views over the town from the tops of their towers. Once you’ve explored the town and had lunch by the canal in a traditional taverna, take the 20-minute walk down the river to the beach. Here you’ll find golden sands and a quiet place to enjoy the scenery with a snack from the small kiosk.
Go a little further afield
Kavos is just a 10-minute drive from Lefkimi and offers a vibrant night scene. This seaside village has lovely beaches that you can enjoy during the day if you’re visiting with the family. Also take a boat trip over to the small islands of Paxos and Antipaxos for quieter beaches and a more relaxed, traditional atmosphere.
Get the adrenaline pumping
At just over an hour’s drive away is the hugely popular Aqualand water park. It’s well worth the longer journey, as the expansive site is home to all manner of slides, rides and pools. The pirate ship will be particularly popular with younger children and is one of the most fun areas of the park. There are plenty of sun loungers for everyone to enjoy some relaxation time and a good choice of food outlets.
Small but special!
A 30-minute drive north of Lefkimi will bring you to the resort of Moraitika. There’s a small village and a sandy beach with beautiful waters perfect for swimming. If you prefer keeping your feet on dry land, take a guided bike ride around the area. You’ll have plenty of stops for sampling some delicious local food.
