Salou is an energetic little thing sitting proudly on the Costa Dorada and along with its quieter neighbours; La Pineda and Cambrils, can offer 10km of outstanding coastline. Blue Flag awards are the order of the day on these beaches and with warm, shallow waters, they are perfect for young swimmers and water sports enthusiasts.

Along with the beaches one of the biggest attractions on holidays to Salou is the Port Aventura theme park. Based on Florida’s Busch Gardens, this family favourite has five themed areas ranging from Mexico and China to the Mediterranean, Polynesia and the Wild West. With rollercoasters and water slides for kids of all ages (even the adult ones), you could easily spend all day every day here and never get bored.

Pop into nearby Tarragona for a quick history lesson on what used to happen around here in roman times, and then enjoy lunch by the old harbour before hitting the modern shopping complexes for some serious retail therapy.

The nightlife can get pretty lively on Salou holidays and there’s certainly no shortage of pubs, clubs and bars. Many are geared towards the party people but don’t let that put you off as there are more than enough for the whole family to enjoy with regular karaoke, bingo and quiz nights. For a taste of the quieter life, Cambrils is just along the coast. This traditional fishing village is packed with fantastic seafood restaurants and offers a more ‘Spanish’ evening out.

So if you love to chill out in the sun but like to be surrounded by a lively atmosphere, and have plenty of fun things to do while you’re away, Salou holidays could be just what you are looking for.
