Winter In New York

Winter, for obvious reasons, can be one of the most magical times of the year to visit New York City. It’s a total winter wonderland – especially in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The Rockefeller Tree, Central Park’s iconic ice rink, the light show on Saks Fifth Avenue… it’s all a sight to behold! The Big Apple will get you in the festive spirit like no other place on Earth. There’s no wonder Christmas in New York is on so many people’s bucket lists. It may be chilly, but throw on your warmest coat and you’re in for the trip of a lifetime.

If you want a winter getaway to New York but you’re not too bothered about seeing the Christmas trees and the festive lights, January and February can still be great months to visit. For one thing, after the hustle and bustle of December, there are a lot less crowds to contend with. You often get cheaper deals in these months, which is a big bonus, and you might even see a sprinkling of snow on your trip! It’ll be chilly, don’t get me wrong, but you’ll be doing plenty of steps around the different boroughs of the city to keep you warm.

You’ll never be short of things to do in New York no matter what time of year you visit, but there are some particularly wonderful things going on in the months of spring. Does summer get any better than this?

Some of our favourite things to do in New York in the summertime are slightly outside of the city centre. For example, you could take the day and venture out to Coney Island’s iconic boardwalk where you can ride colourful fairground attractions and indulge in tasty beachside treats. There are some incredible summer festivals you could go to – music festivals like Governor’s Ball or art festivals like the Lincoln Center Festival, for example – and that’s before we’ve even mentioned the fourth of July fireworks! New York is simply bursting with activity in the summer.

Autumn is one of our favourite times of year for many reasons. Walking the High Line is just wonderful with a backdrop of autumn colours, there are plenty of Halloween festivities to get involved in and then, of course, when it gets to November you’ll notice the city is getting geared up for Christmas. If you visit New York in late autumn, you’ll see trees popping up, lights getting switched on and even the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
