Top 5 Things to do in Mexico

Mexico holidays have always been popular, so whether you’ve already booked or you’re thinking about travelling to Mexico one of the questions most holidaymakers ask is, what is there to do? Well, look no further because we have listed our top 5 things to do in Mexico and you won’t be disappointed!

Chichen Itza

Situated around one hundred and twenty five Kilometres west of Cancun and Cozumel, is the Chichen Itza. Named one of the new 7th wonders of the world with a UNESCO World Heritage status, no trip to Mexico would be complete without a visit to this tourist attraction. This famous archaeological site of the Maya-Toltec civilizations was built between 600 – 200 AD, and is dominated by a large 365-step pyramid known as El Castillo. Still not enough to keep you occupied? Then there are plenty of monuments, plazas and sports fields to fill your days.

Top Tip

Take plenty of drinking water, and if you intend to film any of the ruins make sure you have some extra money as this is an additional cost.

Xcaret Park

A family favourite and one not to be missed is a trip to Xcaret Park, an eco-archaeological sanctuary.  Located in the resort of Riviera Maya, this preserve is packed with everything from plants, insects, music, food and natural wonders. On a typical trip you’ll discover all you need to know about the Mayan Jungle and will touch on Mexico’s culture.

Besides, that’s not all you can expect from Xcaret Park, with 40 attractions it’s understandable why this is one of Mexico’s top outings. Carved into the edge of the Caribbean Sea, the beach isn’t far away either so a dip amongst the waves is a must if you need to cool off. Now, it’s time to snorkel your way along the underwater river, but don’t forget to visit the sea turtles beforehand. When night falls, sit back and enjoy the nightly show where over three hundred take you through Mexico’s rich history.

Top Tip

If you can manage to find a map of the park in your hotel, this would be extremely useful. This way, you can plan your day and make the most of all the park has to offer. Even If you’re feet are beginning to drag and tiredness is setting in, make sure you stay for the evening show. Included in the price the performance will be worth the wait.

Isla Mujeres

Located 8 miles from the Yucatán Peninsula you’ll find Isla Mujeres. 5 miles in length and half a mile wide, this is the ultimate escape-from-it- all paradise. If you enjoy a slower pace of life where you can simply kick off those flip flops and pick that perfect sunbathing spot on the beach then this is the place for you. Are you an active traveller? If so, make sure you snorkel amongst the coral reefs, try a spot of windsurfing or rent a kayak. When meal times approach you certainly won’t go hungry as there’s a great choice of restaurants and cafés to suit everyone from Mediterranean, French, Asian Mexican and Italian.

Top Tips

We suggest hiring a golf buggy. This is a fun way to check out some of the island’s most stunning spots. But don’t bypass those side streets as there are some great places to grab a bite to eat.

Cenotes

If a visit to one of Mexico’s Cenotes is not on your bucket list then it should be! If you’re reading this and have no idea what we’re talking about, don’t worry we will explain. Mexico’s Cenotes is a natural swimming hole which was created when a cave ceiling collapsed and was exposed underneath turquoise pools known as Cenotes. The caves are packed with stalagmite and stalactite formations which are a breath-taking spectacle. Once inside this natural wonder, you can choose to swim, snorkel or even dive.

Top Tips

Whether you prefer to swim, snorkel or dive it doesn’t matter because you can choose the Cenote to best suit you before your visit. And don’t forget to take a towel to dry off after your refreshing dip.

Coco Bongo

Get your glad rags on because it’s time to party! What is this place you ask? It’s Coco Bongo in Cancun. Often described as Vegas meets Mexico, this place is as much a live show as it is a nightclub. Attracting all age types, you can expect acrobats, tribute acts and a night filled with dancing. Open till 3.30am, early nights aren’t an option.

Top Tips

Arrive as early as you can and stay for the whole show – after all you don’t want to miss out. We also recommend booking the VIP experience which includes a waiter service to avoid any queues at the bar.
