A Round Up of RIUs in Cancun

If you’re thinking of heading to the Caribbean climes of Cancun in Mexico, then choosing a RIU hotel is a fabulous choice. With beautiful backdrops, fantastic facilities and superb offerings when it comes to food and drink, a RIU hotel should definitely be in contention for the home of your Cancun getaway.

Take a look at all of your options…

RIU Caribe

Newly refurbished to an amazing standard in Summer 2023, the RIU Caribe is now one of the hottest commodities in Cancun!

If you want to be close to Cancun but far enough away that you forget it exists outside of your hotel walls, then the RIU Caribe is perfect – it’s just 5 minutes’ drive into the lively party centre, and still close to heaps of shops, bars, and nightlife.

You’re situated right on the beach at this hotel, so Caribbean waters and white sands are just a few steps away from the hotel doors. On top of that there’s a trio of pools, including a swim up bar number, as well as hammocks nearby to chill out in. Perfection!

If you’ve stayed at this hotel before then scrap what you remember, because the RIU Cancun has a whole new look; inside and out! It’s been massively modernised, and now has a chic, new feel to it.

One of the best things about the RIU Caribe is that you don’t even have to head into Cancun for lively days and nights – this hotel now hosts four themed parties on a regular basis, so you can go from chilling to partying whenever you like! And these aren’t your usual hotel parties, oh no – you’re going to feel like you’re in Ibiza or Vegas at these lavish events.

RIU Palace Peninsula

One of the most favourited RIU’s in the area has to be the RIU Palace Peninsula. This hotel really stands out from the crowd (quite literally – you can spot its impressive, standout structure for miles!)

This hotel is the home of luxury, with a beachfront setting that’s pretty hard to top. The pool scene here is just as impressive – there’s four to choose from, including a swim up bar serving ice cold cocktails.

But it’s the dining scene that really stands out at this RIU. On top of a beautiful big buffet restaurant that seems to cover everything imaginable, you’ve got the choice of five a la cartes too.

If you’re in the mood for meat, the Steakhouse serves up everything from rib-eye steaks to freshly caught crab, whilst the Mexican restaurant gives you a real taste for the flavours of this stunning country.

And if you choose to stay in the adults-only deluxe villa section of the hotel (honeymoon idea, anyone?) then you also get access to your very own private restaurant serving up the likes of filet mignon and lobster. Wowsers!

The hotel sits at the top of Cacnun’s Hotel Zone, about 2 miles out from the centre – so you’re still only a short bus or taxi ride from all the action.

RIU Palace Las Americas

If you want a more sophisticated, traditional feel to your RIU hotel then the RIU Palace Las Americas is the way to go.

From the hotel’s twin turrets, featuring cupola and statues at the top, to the impressive crystal chandeliers and intricately painted ceilings of its interior, this hotel really does live up to its ‘palace’ name.

Being adults only, you can expect lots of grown-up, elegant touches – and the hotel’s pools are a prime example. Two of the three pools are infinity numbers that seemingly melt into the Caribbean sea, with in-water sunbeds so you can soak up that sunshine whilst cooling down at the same time.

All the stops are pulled out when it comes to dining too, of course – there’s five A La Carte restaurants to choose from, including Japanese, Italian and Mexican. And the main buffet restaurant even serves up on-the-spot show cooking!

The after-dinner entertainment here comes in the form of live shows and a full RIU entertainment programme, with a handful of bars serving up mojitos and margaritas. Holidays here will have you feeling like royalty!

RIU Cancun

If you want a modern hotel just ten minutes’ walk from the heart of all the action in Cancun’s lively centre, then look no further than the RIU Cancun!

This lively hotel has it all going on – an infinity pool, big screen TV’s in the sports bar, and free-flowing drinks from a seriously colourful cocktail menu.

This hotel’s pool scene is perfect for day drinks in the sun, with an infinity pool that also features a swim-up bar brimming with tasty concoctions.

There’s also an outdoor hot tub, surrounded by palm trees and looking straight out onto a stretch of Caribbean sea. You’ll never want to get out!

The closest RIU to Cancun’s centre means you’ve got so many things right on your doorstep, from the world-famous Coco Bongos nightclub to two shopping malls brimming with gifts and souvenirs. There’s an abundance of bars and restaurants within walking distance too, if you fancy a change from the hotel’s amazing All Inclusive offering that is!

The hotel even comes with its very own nightclub – a staple in many of the RIU hotels – so you can enjoy pre-drinks in Pacha before heading out on the town in Cancun.

This hotel gets particularly lively around March time, in line with the USA’s infamous ‘spring break’.

RIU Palace Costa Mujeres

Set on a paper-thin peninsula upwards from Cancun, Costa Mujeres is a relatively new addition in terms of a marvellous Mexico getaway, and it’s popular with both couples and families.

The hotels here focus on making the most of the big stretch of beach, and the RIU Palace Costa Mujeres is situated perfectly to take advantage of all 6 miles of it. Long beach walks are a done deal!

The pool scene is no less impressive – you have the choice of five pools here, two of which are adult only and boast beautiful swim up bars. Plus, you also have access to the waterpark over at the nearby RIU Dunamar. Perfect if you or the kids fancy a splash!

You’ll never go hungry at this hotel – like all of the RIU’s, the food offering is always plentiful, with a pair of snack bars serving up day time drinks and light bites. On top of that there’s six restaurants, including a buffet place and themed options. There’s even ice cream served from the parlour, too!

Your holidays here can be as chilled or as fun-filled as you like – RIU lines up an impressive list of activities throughout the day, from group fitness classes like Yoga to more adventurous affairs like kayaking and snorkelling. The choice is all yours!

RIU Dunamar

Another option for those looking to stay a little further afield from Cancun (but close enough that you can make your way there for days or nights out!) is the RIU Dunamar.

The hotel is designed in the standout RIU decor, and some of the most attentive staff at hand to make your holiday a breeze from start to finish. You’ve got a fantastic five of everything here – five pools, five restaurants, and five bars.

There’s all kinds of varieties of pizza and pasta in the Italian restaurant, delicious oriental cuisine in the Asian eatery and the flavours in the Kulinarium speciality restaurant blend Caribbean flavours together beautifully. Full tummies all around!

There’s always fun activities going on down by the beach, whether it be beach volleyball, kayaking or snorkelling. On top of that there’s also Splash Water World, the hotel’s very own water park! You’ll have a blast racing each other down the slides into the landing pools below. Trust us, the adults have just as much fun on here as the kids!

Costa Mujeres is only a 20-minute drive from Cancun, so you’re not far away from all the hustle and bustle – but your holiday is set far enough away in a secluded piece of paradise. Sounds good to us!

RIU Latino

Say hello to RIU Latino, another RIU up in the lovely area of Costa Mujeres – but this one is just for adults. It opened its doors for the first time in Winter 2022, so everything has a fresh, new feel to it.

RIU Latino has five pools, with each one having its very own atmosphere – some are the place to get the party started with music pumping all day long, whereas others are more restful, serving up rest and relaxation in abundance. And of course, two of them have swim up bars.

The hotel has its own waterpark too, so you can whizz down water slides with your other half or your buddies. It’s a blast being a big kid on holiday!

If you’re in need of something more low key, the hotel’s spectacular spa is on hand to soothe your mind and body. Treat yourself to a massage and feel your worries melt away in the sauna.

The sports bar here serves up snacks and drinks 24/7, so you’ll never be short on refreshments if you’re peckish. Not that that’s likely, as between the show cooking stations in the main buffet and the meaty feasts knocked up in steakhouse, you’ll be fit to burst!

Cancun is still just a 30-minute drive away from RIU Latino, so you can head into the centre for the day, or party at night – and then return to the bliss of Costa Mujeres.
