Stunning beaches

There’s no doubt about it, holidays in Bang Tao are all about the beach. It really is the star of the show here, with trademark Thai white sands that stretch for miles along Phuket’s west coast. It’s nestled between mountains and backed by lush trees, creating a totally tropical feel. Being such a picturesque place, it’s no surprise that you’ll find a couple of hotels here, including one of the biggest complexes in Thailand.

When you’ve had your fill of lying back on the sand, hire some watersports equipment to enjoy the turquoise waters. Then see what the souvenir stalls dotted on the beach have to offer. There’s a handful of beach clubs, where you can enjoy clear sea views from the luxury of their beautiful swimming pools.

Try the best in Thai cuisine

The beach clubs are a great place to eat your fill of tasty Thai food, but there are lots of top restaurants nearby too. On offer is everything from basic beach snacks to high-end dining. You can enjoy all sorts of cuisines, with restaurants serving Mediterranean, Indian and Italian food alongside those focusing solely on Thai food.

Many of the Thai dishes you’ll come across feature fresh fish and seafood. Some of the most popular and delicious things to try include fried red snapper, fried squid, shrimp cakes, giant tiger prawns and seafood salads. All kinds of Panang curries and papaya salads are worth tasting too. Wash all that delicious traditional food down with a cool, Thai beer.

Take time to bliss out

Take the time to treat yourself to some little luxuries during your time in Bang Tao. The huge Laguna Phuket Complex is home to an open-air mall called Canal Village, with around 40 outlets ranging from little jewellery shops to clothing stores. Boat Avenue is a large shopping complex full of boutiques, clothing stores and beauty salons. There are also lots of souvenir shops near the beach, selling a variety of handmade and hard-carved wood items.

When you’re all worn out from hitting the shops, go for a soothing massage at one of the spas close to the beach. Enjoy a traditional, therapeutic Thai massage that employs a range of oils and aromatherapy to help melt away any tightness in your muscles. Relax as chilled music is played in the background for a blissful experience.

Visit animal sanctuaries

Holidays to Bang Tao Beach are a dream come true for animal lovers, as there are so many sanctuaries and rescues to visit in the area. Green Elephant Sanctuary Park is one of the main elephant sanctuaries and is less than a 20-minute drive away in Choeng Thale. You could also walk there in under an hour and take in some stunning scenery along the way. Here you can see and interact with elephants living freely in their natural environment – it’s a wonderful thing to experience.

The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is another must-visit, with the park being 25 minutes away from Bang Tao by car. The project aims to rehabilitate gibbons that have come from the pet or tourist trades, and you can watch them enjoying their new lives throughout the park.
