Calypso Hotel

A lively pool scene and a location close to the beach are just a couple of reasons why guests love the Calypso Hotel.

The hotel also comes with a great list of activities for the whole family. Parents and kids get two pools each and there’s also a 10-pin bowling alley for families who like to keep it competitive!

The restaurant serves an around-the-world buffet including plenty of favourites from back home. If you love sports, head to the Apple Bar where games are shown on the big screen. It also keeps the drinks flowing until 1am. Elsewhere, there’s live music, comedy, dancing and more out on the terrace.

Overview of Salou

Salou is incredibly popular with families searching for holidays to Costa Dorada. It’s one of the most highly commercialised resorts in mainland Spain, so there are plenty of thrills and spills for parents and children alike.

The stunning beaches that line the coast are great if you’re looking for some sun by the Mediterranean Sea. But the range of activities is what draws most guests to the Calypso Hotel. PortAventura theme park is one of the main attractions, but you can also visit Bosc Aventura and enjoy evening entertainment that varies from illusion shows and magic acts to comedy and flamenco dancing.

Things to do in Salou

The Calypso Hotel is just a 10-minute walk from one of the best sandy stretches on the Costa Dorada. The beach at Playa Capellans is connected to the main promenade and you can walk all the way to the lighthouse. It’s tucked in a bay and surrounded by cliffs, so the calm waters are popular with families.

When you want to get even more active, head to PortAventura. It’s the biggest theme park in Spain and has Europe’s tallest and fastest hyper coaster.

When you stay in Salou, the whole family will enjoy an unforgettable break in the Spanish sunshine.

Resort Summary

Salou has two main beaches – both of which are European Blue Flag winners – that offer the kind of beautiful, fine sand and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea that we’ve come to expect from holidays to Costa Dorada. Playa de Llevant beach is a great choice for families as the water remains calm and shallow and the sand is consistently smooth – ideal conditions for splashing around or doing some snorkelling. Playa de Llevant has a long stretch of beach bars and there are also small play areas for children along the promenade.

The second beach in Salou is Playa de Ponent. It’s slightly shorter than Playa de Llevant but still a kilometre long with quaint cafes dotted along the sand, perfect for an ice cold refreshment. If you want to venture further afield the busier tourist hotspot of Cambrils is just up the coast line.
