Having secured a Michelin star for its 'cuisine of great finesse', Bon Bon's tasting menu is the best way to enjoy its excellence. From purple prawns cooked with seaweed and watercress to veal sweetbreads served with mandarin, langoustines and turnips, this is fine dining at its best.

Evening delights at Taste

Start with one of the Taste's enticing starters before moving onto the fish or meat courses, where you'll find all sorts of delicious savouries. Black risotto is just one of the dishes that this fantastic eatery produces for the pleasure if its customers. Advance booking is advised.

Delicious home cooking at O Salmao

Experience the very best in Portuguese home cooking with a meal at O Salmao. Vegetarians will love the extensive choice of dishes, while omnivores can tuck into tuna served in a pepper and port sauce or succulent lamb chops. The puddings are very moreish too, with profiteroles and chocolate desserts all featuring.

Courtyard dining at A Tasquinha

Enjoy outstanding food at a reasonably price when you dine on Tasquinha's outside terrace. Sample some local 'bacalhau a braz' – cod steaks with olives and scrambled eggs – or you could always opt for seared scallops or a steak instead. No matter what you fancy, the menu here is extensive.

Seafood specialities at O Pescador Benagil

Situated on the cliffs above the sea, the view from this restaurant is truly awe-inspiring. The ceviche here is fantastic, as are the corvina and cantarilho, or eels and red snappers to you and me. This is a super special destination in which to sample some enticing Portuguese seafood.

Grilled excellence at the Wolf bar and Grill

The popularity of this restaurant means you'll have to book a table in advance. Grills include steaks and chateaubriand, all washed down with some first rate local wine. There's also a burger bar upstairs from the main restaurant if you prefer a more informal vibe.

Generous portions at A Gale

Be prepared to let your belt out when enjoying a meal at A Gale. Sample the flambeed prawns in a delicious garlic and butter sauce, or relish the simply epic seabass. The Portuguese fish soup is also divine, and with generous portions and excellent prices, this restaurant is a real gem.

Out of town luxury at Restaurante Hexagone

It's worth making the seven-minute drive out of Carvoeiro to Restaurante Hexagone, especially if you're using your Algarve holidays to celebrate a special occasion. This restaurant prides itself on its contemporary cooking and once you've sampled the tasting menu, you'll want to return. Mackerel, crab and pigeon breast are all served here, and there's also a lively vegetarian menu.

Authentic Portuguese style at Le Cro

Open for both lunch and dinner, Le Cro is always a popular destination. This restaurant serves a fantastic range of tapas dishes, each beautifully presented. This is also an excellent restaurant to sample Portuguese sausage, ceviche, as well as some robust local wines.

From Thai fishcakes to Moroccan style lamb, the one thing that all dishes at Ele e Ela have in common is that they're cooked with fresh, local produce.
