For a glimpse into how the other half live, Monte Carlo is a luxury lover’s paradise. Monte-Carlo is the most famous of the Principality of Monaco’s districts. It is named after Prince Charles III, who was behind its construction in the nineteenth century. Monaco is a Principality, which is an independent and sovereign country, surrounded on three sides
by France and on the fourth by the Mediterranean Sea.

The Casino de Monte Carlo is one of the most iconic buildings in Monaco, and has featured in several James Bond films. It’s open every day and has a variety of casino games including Black Jack, English Roulette, Slot Machines and more. The Casino de Monte Carlo is also home to the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and the office of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

As the casino is so prestigious and grand in its appearance, guests are required to look equally smart. Trainers are strictly forbidden and a jacket and tie is strongly recommended in the gaming rooms for men in the evening, and is compulsory for the salons privés.

The Rich and Famous

Thanks to the lifestyle, status and events in Monte Carlo, it’s a hub for celebrities, meaning no matter when you visit, there’s always the chance to rub shoulders with the rich and famous. The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most famous events held here, and it attracts many celebrities from around the world who come to watch it, often from beautifully lavish yachts bobbing on the water. 

There’s also many celebrities who have taken residency in Monte Carlo over the years. One of the most attractive things about owning your own pad in Monte Carlo, and the rest of Monaco, is that residents don’t have to pay tax on their income. Some of the A List residents of Monaco include Formula 1’s Jensen Button, lead vocalist of U2 Bono, Dame Shirley Bassey and Dragon and health club tycoon Duncan Bannatyne.

To cater for its wealthy residents, Monte Carlo has an abundance of designer stores that are perfect for satisfying that retail therapy craving. You’ll find everything from Chanel to Gucci, Fendi to Dior, and what’s more… nothing has a price tag! Yep, you read that right. The residents and visitors of Monte Carlo are so wealthy that they don’t need to worry about the price of things when they’re shopping, imagine that!

But don’t worry if your budget doesn’t quite cover these fancy designer wares, you can just pop in for a nosey or head over to one of the many shopping malls to try and grab yourself a bargain!

Wealthy Waterfront

Monte Carlo’s waterfront is brimming with luxury yachts and you can spot them on a walk around the marina or from the path that winds its way around the buildings above. Celebrities often frequent the waters in their luxury super yachts so if you look carefully, you might even spot A listers soaking up the rays on the main deck. 

Along the coast, you’ll find Larvotto Beach, a man made, smooth, pebbly bay. It’s lined by a wide promenade, so beachfront walks are definitely on the agenda. And if you fancy a bite to eat, there’s a handful of restaurants with al fresco seating and front-row views of the sea. Throw on your best swimwear and find the perfect spot on the sand for people watching, tanning and of course, sandcastle building. After all, it may be the only property in Monaco that you can get your hands on!
