Overview of Skala

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay during your holiday to Kefalonia, it’s likely you’ve already heard of Skala. It’s the largest resort on the island and is a big favourite with holidaymakers thanks to its three-kilometre-long beach.

Although tourism is a major trade, Skala remains relaxed and traditional. The natural landscapes that surround the village are completely unspoilt and the buildings within have maintained their traditional charm.

The streets and seafront are lined with bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a traditional Greek experience. Although Skala has a relaxed vibe, there’s also plenty to explore, so a holiday here will equally suit history buffs and beach lovers.

Things to do in Skala

The Aeolos Beach Hotel is only a couple of minutes’ walk away from Skala’s long, sandy beach. It’s a quiet sanctuary here so although you won’t find many water sports, there are plenty of loungers and parasols.

If you fancy enjoying an evening out, then the nearest bars and restaurants are only a 10-minute stroll away, and plenty of these are family run. They serve traditional Greek food and offer evening entertainment.

For a day in Skala, simply take the beach road. A 20-minute walk will take you to the resort centre. Old ruins are dotted around the outskirts of the village, including an original Roman villa that includes a well-preserved mosaic floor that dates back to the third century.
