The charming Aghia Efimia is surrounded by idyllic beaches, pastel-coloured houses, and mysterious underground caves. From sightseeing and scuba diving, to sunbathing and shopping, there's plenty to do – or not do – in this laidback fishing village.
Aghia Efimia is a picturesque village that revels in its traditional way of life. The beautiful buildings surrounding the harbour are postcard-worthy, and its hidden coves and proximity to Myrtos Beach make it a favourite with visitors to Kefalonia. On Aghia Efimia, you're perfectly placed to spend your days exploring the local area, or sunbathing on the surrounding beaches.
Many of Aghia Efimia's best beaches are tucked away into the rugged coastline – so they're only accessible by boat. Luckily there are plenty of trips and tours that will take you around the beautiful inlets. You can also hire your own boat to explore the secluded coves and snorkel in the warm waters.
A film buff's dream!
A 15-minute drive away is the town of Sami – which had a starring role in Captain Corelli's Mandolin. The Hollywood film took to its narrow, winding streets and turned it into wartime Argostoli. Its beautiful harbour, shops and restaurants make it worth visiting while you're in Agia Efimia. If you're a fan of the film, then make sure you check out Myrtos Beach – you'll instantly recognise it from the big screen. You'll also want to stop at the magical Melissani Lake and watch the wondrous colours that sparkle underground.
Crystal clear waters
Swimmers and divers will love the glassy waters off Aghia Efimia's shoreline. The diving conditions are sublime, and visibility of more than 30 metres is the norm. You can explore underground caves, reefs and old shipwrecks – and some guides will even take you over a diffused World War Two mine.
