Sunbathe on glorious beaches or take in the exotic marine life
The beach at Sahl Hasheesh stretches for over 10 kilometres around the bay and has gentle waves at the shoreline. It’s ideal for paddling or taking a leisurely stroll along the water’s edge. Lie back and pop your headphones on, or get active with a wide variety of watersports including pedalos, snorkelling and kayaking.
The bay is home to several varieties of coral and a rich diversity of sea life such as dolphins, eagle rays and pipefish. Just off the shoreline is a submerged replica of The Temple of Horus from Edfu, offering the opportunity to get a closer look at the marine creatures darting in and around ancient-looking buildings. Even if you don’t want to snorkel or dive, you can still see the underwater ruins from a walkway which starts at the beach and juts out into the bay.
There are several small islands and coral reefs out to sea which can be easily reached by boat. Relax on deck and do a bit of swimming, or have fun diving and exploring. Abu Hashish Island is definitely worth visiting while you’re there too, this protected wildlife area has an idyllic lagoon that makes the perfect holiday day trip.
