Overview of Puerto Calero

A steadfast favourite in terms of beach holidays, Lanzarote is an island with many attractive features, not least the volcanic sands, excellent weather and delicious food. Holidays to Lanzarote can be terrifically varied, depending on what you’re looking for, with each of the different regions offering something unique. In the case of Puerto Calero, luxury is the order of the day, thanks to the state-of-the-art yacht marina, spectacular bars and up-market restaurants. A holiday here really does give you a taste of the good life, and as you’d expect, the hotels are incredible.

Things to do in Puerto Calero

No luxury holiday hot-spot would be complete without a few designer boutiques to spend some time (and money) in, and Puerto Calero doesn’t deviate from this recipe for success. There are even up-market souvenir shops, for some classy gifts to take home. With the marina in place, there are plenty of opportunities to get out to sea and experience some of the joys of the water. Adults-only and family day trips are readily available, and for those of you who like to learn a new skill, there are plenty of diving excursions to enjoy. Puerto Calero might be small, but it really is mighty in terms of excellent places to eat. You’ll find a range of international cuisines on offer, as well as tasty paella and fantastic Spanish wines. Nightlife here consists of late suppers and people-watching over a glass of wine, on a beautiful terrace. This place is perfect if you’re looking for tranquility. Party-people take note!

Resort Summary

The marina is at the centre of life in Puerto Calero. Instead of a beach you have amazing access to the sea and a range of interesting activities that revolve around it.

Highlights include the Catlanza Catamaran trips, where you can try your hand at sailing as experts guide you around the incredible island coast. There are also submarine trips that allow you to see what’s beneath the surface of that clear blue sea, and sports-fishing boats that are willing to take you out to try your luck at catching bluefin tuna or marlin.

Having been rebuilt and developed three times since its conception in 1983, the marina now stands as a testament to what can be achieved on the back of one man’s dream. Expanded from 200 to 420 berths in 1999, you’re expected to take the opportunity to stand and stare at some of the yachts that give the marina its nickname.

If at some point you do find yourself missing the beach – and we’d understand if you did – then the Playa Grande at Puerto del Carmen is a 15-minute bus ride away. If you want to arrive in style, you can take a water taxi for a few Euros!
