History And Directions For Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport was formerly known as Yeadon Aerodrome and opened in 1931 for club flights and training. The airport became an RAF base during the Second World War and civil flights did not recommence until 1947. A milestone for the airport was in 1976 when the first package holiday flight to the Iberian Peninsula flew out of Leeds Bradford Airport. An extension to the runway during the 1980s gave the airport “regional airport status” and an extensive development programme starting in 2003 saw the airport expand even further giving Leeds Bradford Airport, a strong commercial and financial base for the future.

Leeds Bradford Airport is located approximately 11 miles from Leeds city centre and 7 miles from Bradford city centre. There is access from the M1, M62 and the Yorkshire section of the A1. Leeds City Railway Station and Bradford Interchange are connected to the airport by a short bus ride. There are also regular bus services from Leeds and Bradford city centres to Leeds Bradford Airport terminal.
