Edinburgh International Airport is now owned and operated by BAA but was initially an RAF base when it first opened in 1915. The present terminal building was constructed in 1977 and a new control tower was completed in 2005. Edinburgh International Airport is located approximately 8 miles west of the city centre with easy access via the A8 or the M9 and M90 motorways. A regular bus service is available between the city centre and the airport and if travelling by rail, Waverley and Haymarket stations are located a short bus ride from the airport.
