History And Directions For Blackpool Airport
Blackpool Airport’s first flight was in 1909 and during the Second World War the airfield was used as an RAF base. Blackpool became a civil airport in 1949 and has continued to expand with a 2 million pound terminal that opened in 1995. With the introduction of low cost cheap flight airlines such as Jet2.com and Ryanair there has been a huge increase in passenger turnover with the airport predicting figures of over 750,000 in the near future.
Blackpool International Airport is located approximately 2.6miles south east of the town centre using junction 4 of the M55. There are links from the M55 to the M6 and M61. Squires Gate train station is five minutes walk from the airport terminal with links to Preston station. There is a regular bus service to and from the airport to Blackpool and Lytham St.Annes.
