Melia Las Americas

 

 

Beachy views are a given here at Melia Las Americas thanks to its breathtaking beachfront setting. If you’re a golf fan, you’ll love it here, Varadero’s beautiful 18-hole golf course is right next door to the hotel! Back at the hotel there are plenty of watersports to pick from, including snorkelling, windsurfing and water polo. If you prefer to stay dry, try your hand at yoga, beach volleyball or badminton.

 

At Melia Las Americas, there are four specialty restaurants, as well as the main buffet. Typically Cuban cuisine is dished up in the main buffet, you can expect meat and fish options and there’ll be plenty of variety from day to day. Il Limoncello is a Mediterranean à la carte restaurant, La Arcada à la carte restaurant serves up dishes from around the globe, La Robleza BBQ  offers a steakhouse menu at lunchtime, then it switches to Cuban cuisine for evening meals. There’s also Sakura which offers Japanese fare for evening meals only – and it’s an à la carte service.

 

Melia Las Americas offers double rooms as well as junior suites – the latter has an occupancy of two guests. All rooms and junior suites have air-conditioning, a King-size bed or twin beds, a shower or bath, free Wi-Fi and a Satellite TV. A balcony or terrace is furnished, too.

 

Blau Varadero

 

 

It’s all about the beach at the Blau Varadero – a 13-mile-long stretch of ice-white sand is right outside of the front of the hotel. The hotel is an adults only spot, and has beautiful Caribbean touches throughout. On the sports front, you’ve got stuff like archery, volleyball and football to have a go at. There are two tennis courts, and you can grab snorkelling equipment from the dive centre.

 

You’ve got three dining spots to choose from – there’s a buffet restaurant for international dishes, plus two à la cartes. The Italian restaurant serves Italian-inspired cuisine, and you can eat here once per week as part of your All Inclusive package. Palma Real is an à la carte restaurant that deals in international cuisine. You can eat here once a week as part of your All Inclusive package. And it’s best to make a table reservation.

 

The huge pool takes centre stage outside. It’s split into two, and shaped like a four-leaf clover. A bar mixes up cocktails – you can have them brought straight to your lounger if you fancy. Inside, the spa features a hydromassage pool, plus cabins for treatments like body scrubs and massages.

 

Royalton Hicacos

 

 

Directly on a soft white beach, the Royalton Hicacos is an adults-only retreat that hosts five elegant restaurants where you can wine and dine in luxury. The secluded nature of the hotel’s location makes it feel like you’re in the middle of a tropical retreat. A huge swimming pool snakes through the grounds. It’s edged by glossy palms, features a cascading waterfall and a swim-up bar, and is criss-crossed by wooden bridges.

 

You can take your pick from six restaurants at mealtimes, including an international buffet eatery and four a la carte restaurants serving up  the likes of Italian, Mexican and traditional Cuban fare, plus seafood. There are also six bars spread throughout the hotel. They include the Lobby bar, Jazz bar, Swim-up bar, Beach bar and Cigar bar. Each with their own distinct atmosphere, they all serve up a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks along with cocktails such as mojitos and daiquiris.

 

The nightly entertainment programme includes cabaret shows and vocal performances, and there’s even a nightclub if you want to dance the night away! When you’ve finished partying, your bright and airy junior suite gives you a warm and welcoming feel. There’s a king-size bed, satellite TV, ceiling fan and air-conditioning. You’ll also get a separate living area, plus a balcony or terrace for that additional outside space. These are available for single occupancy.

 

Iberostar Varadero

 

 

The Iberostar Varadero pulls out all the stops. You’ll have three pools, five restaurants and a hefty list of activities for the whole family to enjoy, so you may never even want to leave the hotel.  Ocean or pool – that’s the big question at this place. The three pools sit just metres from the beach, along with their sunbed-fringed terraces.

 

You can try a range of international favourites at the buffet. If you’re poolside, there’s a place serving pizzas and burgers. The a la cartes offer seafood, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine. TripAdvisor reviewers rave about the surf and turf at La Dorada, while show-cooking on teppanyaki tables steals the limelight at Manzoku. If you’re visiting over the Christmas period, a Christmas Eve gala meal will be on offer so you can celebrate the festive season in style.

Ocean Vista Azul

 

 

Ocean Vista Azul takes full advantage of its coastal plot. You can walk to a strip of Varadero’s world-famous beachfront in two minutes – there’s a path that weaves through the gardens right down to the sand. Sunbathing space is in plentiful supply here. You’ve got a trio of swimming pools to chill out by, including an infinity number with widescreen sea views. There’s a swim-up bar in the mix, too, so you won’t need to venture far to get a top up.

 

There are a whopping five restaurants on the cards here. You can tuck into Italian, Caribbean or international food. There are also two à la carte restaurants exclusively for Privilege section guests. You can grab lunch down on the beach at the Ranchon Beach Bar, or head to the pool for drinks and straight-off-the-grill snacks. In the a la carte restaurants, gentlemen are required to wear closed shoes, full-length trousers and a t-shirt or sleeved shirt, while women are requested not to wear shorts or flip-flops.

 

Rooms all come with basics like air-con, satellite TV and coffee makers. Deluxe rooms can be upgraded to include pool views. Privilege rooms can be upgraded to include sea views, ocean front location or for real luxury, opt for the royal suite. These also come with the extras including an exclusive lounge and beach area. The wellness centre is the place to go to treat yourself. It has a gym so you can keep up with your workout while on holiday, and also offers a range of massages and beauty treatments.

 

Sirenis Tropical Varadero

 

 

The Sirenis Tropical Varadero is a stone’s throw from one of the Cuba’s best-rated beaches. There are two pools at this hotel. The lagoon-style number hosts activities like aqua aerobics and it’s also home to a swim-up bar. The pool closer to the beach tends to stay a little quieter. It’s got a bar nearby, and some of its surrounding sunloungers lock in sea views.

 

You’ve got two buffet restaurants at this hotel – both serve up a selection of international dishes from show-cooking stations at lunch and dinner. Both hot and cold plates are on offer at breakfast time. There are à la cartes here, covering Cuban, Mexican, Italian and international dishes. A total of nine bars cover things on the drinks front – spots include a beach-club place, a nightclub and a swim-up bar in the main pool.

 

The evening entertainment programme usually takes a Cuban theme, with local singers and dance acts taking to the stage after dark. When you’re ready to rest your head, you can rest assured that you have a relaxing room. Double rooms come with air-conditioning, a minibar – which is replenished, a telephone, television and safe. They have a balcony or terrace which can be upgraded to have a sea view. Junior suites are also available and provide a little more space with a lounge area.
