Or explore Izmir City, which has several historic monuments and museums. Izmir’s Synagogue Street is a colourful collection of stalls where you can barter for fruit and veg or a local souvenir. And the west-facing coastline here is perfect for watching the sun set into the Aegean Sea at one of the many restaurants that line the scenic harbour. Another affordable day out is the Wildlife Park in Izmir City, with elephants and zebras.
