A couple's guide to Costa Blanca

Named after the brilliant white coast that spreads over 200 kilometres of south-eastern Spain, Costa Blanca is the ultimate spot for a romantic holiday for two. This shoreline is home to some of Spain’s most-loved and well-known summer destinations, including Benidorm and Denia.

Even though these cities are known for their wild nightlife and party atmospheres, there’s a lot more to Costa Blanca than meets the eye.

Gorgeous Mediterranean views, historical hilltop castles, botanical gardens and epic expanses of shoreline are just a few of the reasons why Costa Blanca is the ideal couples’ retreat. If you’re travelling in Costa Blanca with the one you love, here are some romantic spots to visit along the way.

Take in the views

Take the hand of your special someone and walk up the steps to the top of Placa del Castell in Benidorm’s old town area.

A castle once stood here, but now it’s home to a traditional Spanish lookout point with blue and white tiles, cannons and monuments. The views from this balcony are incredible. Perched high above Benidorm’s beaches, you’ll receive sweeping views of the Levante and Poniente coastlines.

Pubs, bars and restaurants are dotted around the winding streets of this pretty area, as well as small market stalls selling local produce. At night time the Palca del Castell lights up and musicians play underneath the stars, making your evening stroll down its pathways even more romantic.

Sight-seeing adventures

For any couples who love history and welcome a day of sightseeing, head to the Castle of Santa Barbara. This 16th-century fortress is perched high on a hillside overlooking the city of Alicante.

It can be reached from the city centre through walking up traditional narrow streets and small gardens or you can go by bus.

Once you’ve taken in the stunning views over the city and coast, you can have a delicious meal at the Michelin-recommended La Ereta restaurant and check out the MARQ Provincial Archaeological Museum.

Relax on the shores

Costa Blanca has some of the most romantic beaches in the world, with shimmering white sand, warm clear Mediterranean water and restaurants perfect for couples’ dining.

Close to the centre of Denia is Les Marines beach, this three-kilometre Blue Flag winning coast has everything you need for an exciting couples’ beach trip. There are bars and restaurants lining its promenade, and facilities for pedalo hire and beach volleyball.

For a slightly more romantic take on the beach holiday, the cove beach at Playa La Granadella is surrounded by towering trees and cliffs.

Its secluded locale means you won’t have to fight the crowds, and you can unwind on a sunlounger with just the one you love. It also has fantastic hiking trails, rocks and caves eager to be explored for the adventurous couple.

Spa days

There’s little more romantic than a spa day with your special someone, and in Costa Blanca there are endless spots to do just that. Head to the hills of Alicante and enjoy a panoramic view of the sea while you’re pampered at the Mountain Retreat Spa.

This health and beauty spa has a whole host of treatments as well as a private pool and hot tub. You’ll also be greeted with tapas on your arrival and a full lunch with refreshing drinks throughout the day. Book a couples’ massage and spend some quality time relaxing with your other half.

Romantic dining

Of course, you can’t visit Spain and not enjoy some authentic Spanish tapas. Dine out in Moraira‘s Plaza de la Iglesia for flavoursome cuisine in a picturesque spot, or try the catch of the day together at one of the quaint restaurants overlooking the town’s port.

If you’re staying in Benidorm, treat your partner to fine dining at Amigos Bistro and you’re sure to be in their good books.
