Costa Rica

December 2nd, 2009

In 2007 we headed out on the very first charter flight from the UK to Costa Rica. It really is an exquisite country, and you can see both the Pacific and Caribbean waves from it’s highest point. You could do anything here, from lazing on the sun kissed sands to flying high through the tropical canopies, both a real treat.

Beaches are a mix of golden white sands and black volcanic sand. The surrounding areas are abundant in exotic wild life. Listening to the birds singing whilst sunbathing was so relaxing, and if you’re lucky one of the lovely locals will take you on a tour showing you all the different species. In the rainforest you get to see so many animals from howler monkeys to blue jeaned frogs.

The more adventurous are in for a really unforgettable experience. You can walk across bridges atop the rain forest canopies or plunge into them on a zip wire. I did both and they were exhilarating!!

I’ve tried many of these canopies across the world, but this place was most memorable. I plan to return this year with my husband for the thrills all over again! If heights aren’t your thing you can try horse riding or white water rafting. Again I did both and literally can’t wait to go back and do it all again!

The daring can visit Arenal which is a live volcano and you can stand at the bottom and watch the lava run down the side. How many people could say they’ve seen that on holiday?!!

Hotels have quality entertainment packages as they are the main focus on an evening here, but if you fancy a change of scene, Tamarindo is a surfing town with plenty of restaurants and bars along the beach, all with a really chilled out feel.

Tamarindo even has live street entertainment and a few clubs. The atmosphere here is fantastic and also has waves from the Pacific which is great for surfers during the day.

When you’re out and about shopping make sure you get some of the local coffee. This has to be the best coffee in the world in my opinion and I brought loads home – another reason to go back, I’m running out!!

Anyone thinking of going on holiday to Costa Rica really shouldn’t hesitate! It is a fantastic place, the people are so friendly and I can truly say this was one of, if not THE, best holiday I’ve ever had! There really is something for everyone, regardless of age!!!
