Akyaka Holidays - Resort Guide

Both modern and traditional…

Akyaka is rarity in that it has managed to maintain its traditional roots, despite blossoming in popularity as a fairly major holiday resort in recent years. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, Akyaka is more commonly frequented by Turkish natives rather than the Western traveller, so their influence on the resort has been minimal. Second, despite growing and expanding, town planners have been extremely careful to make sure all new buildings are entirely in-keeping with the existing architecture.

Plenty of places to eat…

Because of this, Akyaka is rapidly growing in popularity with Westerners, offering picturesque views and a traditional relaxed charm, along with all of the modern amenities and a range of hotels that one would expect from any European holiday resort. A wide choice of restaurants are complemented by traditional grocery stores frequented by locals and native tourists, which gives visitors to Akyaka a wider variety of food options than most typical holiday resorts.

Go exploring…

The beach is a narrow strip of sand overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Aegan – absolutely ideal for snorkelling and swimming – and boat trips to local coves and caves offer a little bit of extra adventure in between all of the peaceful sunbathing you’ll be doing. But if you take your adventuring a little more seriously, Akyaka has you covered. The resort is surrounded by lush pine forests teeming with wildlife and nature trails, and if you really fancy yourself as the outdoors type, there’s always the Mugla plateau – a 2,000 foot high trek offering spectacular views of the surrounding area as a reward.

Visit Mugla…

If all of that isn’t enough, you can always take the half hour bus ride to Mugla, which offers a very popular marketplace once a week, as well as Turkish baths and various other traditional Turkish businesses that are sure to expand your horizons.
