One of the smaller Canary Islands, La Palma is an unspoilt, budget-friendly island – a real haven if you love nature and staggering scenery. Be enchanted by a coastline flecked with tiny black-sand coves and the green forests of the north.

La Palma Cheap Holidays

A relaxing getaway, full of historic towns and beautiful forests

It takes about four and a half hours to fly to La Palma and popular resorts for a cheap holiday like Los Cancajos and Brena Baja are only 15 minutes away, with Puerto Naos reachable in an hour.

Temperatures don’t change all that much from summer to winter in La Palma, with around 23°C in summer and 19°C in winter, making it an ideal place to escape the UK winter. It also means you can get great deals pretty much any time of year.

With three black-sand beaches,

Los Cancajos is the largest holiday resort on the island. Here you’ll discover a black volcanic sand, secluded coves and breathtaking views across the remarkable Caldera de Taburiente mountain range. Situated on the east coast, Brena Baja is a quiet, hillside village on the outskirts of the bustling capital, Santa Cruz. It provides beautiful views along the coastline, and across to neighbouring Tenerife and La Gomera island.

The resort of Puerto Naos on the east coast of La Palma, is right beside the sea and surrounded by banana plantations making it ideal for visitors in search of peace and tranquillity. As well as the main beach at Puerto Naos, there are other nearby coves that can also be explored before re-fuelling and recharging with the tasty local squid freshly prepared in the area.

Cheap days out in La Palma

It doesn’t have to cost a penny to enjoy the sights of La Palma like hiking along the Route of Volcanoes in Puerto Naos. Or for a slice of genuine Canarian architecture, take a trip to Llanos de Aridane, around 20 minutes’ away, where you’ll feast your eyes on houses fronted by gorgeous wooden balconies and the colonial-style church of Nuestra Senora de Los Remedios.

There’s no better place to try out stargazing than La Palma – holidaymakers flock from all over the world to witness the sublime skies. The Llano de Las Ventas Astronomical Viewpoint is situated in the city of Brena Baja, at 1320 meters of altitude, from which you can marvel at an amazing view of the East Coast. Just download a free stargazing app and you can even be an expert from the comfort of a bar stool.

Los Cancajos Beach is protected by breakwaters made of volcanic rock, meaning you’re sure to enjoy serene waters for swimming in throughout the year, as well as a wide array of marine life. Or you could splash out, quite literally, and hire some scuba diving or snorkelling equipment.
