Which Crazy Pre-Holiday Rituals Are You Guilty Of?

When it comes to booking a holiday, we all look for different things, some like an active holiday, some love to chill, while some love to cruise around the world. One thing we pretty much all have in common though is deep down in our inner soul we all have one or two pre-holiday rituals we just have to do before we head off on holiday. The question is, which type of holiday prepper are you?

The Over-Checker

Check the back door so many times you’re in danger of pulling the handle off

  • Unplug everything electrical in case it mysteriously blows up while you’re away, then on your return, wonder why your favourite TV programme hasn’t recorded
  • Double check the windows are locked, not once, twice but three times
  • Get halfway to the airport and wonder if you locked the back door
  • Set off for the airport, and only get as far as the corner, to only go back to double check the door is locked
  • Check you’ve got your passport, double check again to be sure. Just before you leave for the airport have another check. Then, on arrival at the airport, start sweating at the check-in desk when you just can’t place your passport!

The Updater

[quotegallery]

  • You begin checking the weather for your holiday destination daily, increasing to hourly after you notice a spot of rain!
  • Download a countdown app, just because you can, even though you know how many days, hours and minutes it is until you board the plane
  • Constantly update social media with news of your travel plans
  • Switch on your out of office with a huge grin on your face – I mean, someone will be watching me won’t they?
  • You check Trip Advisor daily for reviews on your chosen hotel – when all the reviews are good, you begin to wonder why?
  • Mention to anyone who’ll listen that it’s only two weeks until your holiday, then 13 days, then 12 days…

The Cleaner

[quotegallery]

  • Change your bedding… Is a stranger going to be sleeping in your bed while you’re away?
  • Clean your house from top to bottom – Who for the burglar?
  • Out comes the lawnmower, after all the grass could grow six foot in a week!

The Organiser

[quotegallery]

  • You never learn from your mistakes and pack like you’re never coming back, and when it comes to check-in, you start sweating profusely as you know you will be the one 5kgs over your allowance
  • Empty your fridge and send food parcels to your neighbours, even if some of it’s actually out of date… The thought was there!
  • Check the currency rates, and hang on just in case you get a better deal
  • Start a diet the minute you book… And fail
  • Order a takeaway the night before you travel, to save on the washing up
  • Book in for your beauty treatments de fuzzing, and banishing that lady tash
  • Wear the same clothes for a week to avoid dirtying your ‘best stuff’

The Just In Case

[quotegallery]

  • You decide to book a cheap breakaway, convincing yourself you don’t need to buy any new clothes, as you will “make do” with what you already have… You confirm your holiday and within seconds you are trawling the internet for a new wardrobe
  • You get your suitcase down from the attic to realise that one of the wheels is missing. It actually fell off on your last holiday but you decided to keep the suitcase just in case… Yes of course a one wheeled suitcase will come in handy
  • Pack some English teabags and coffee, just in case it’s that foreign stuff! Hello, you are in another country
  • Is it European or continental plug? You know you’ll take all the ones you own, just in case!
  • Sitting out in the garden hoping to catch a base tan before you jet off
  • Keep weighing your luggage even though nothing has been taken out or put in
  • Go to the toilet 17 times in the last half-hour before leaving the house, even if the airport is less       than an hour away, you know, just in case
