Welcome To Miami

My boyfriend, Billy, and I travelled to Miami in August last year, staying in the JW Marriot Miami. The hotel is really nice and the staff were very friendly. Our room was really spacious with a 42” plasma TV, which really appealed to Billy. The room also had a free internet connection, which was great for emailing home.

South Beach

South Beach is a really great place to visit. The beach is so white and soft and the sea is so blue and warm. It does get very crowded but it’s what we expected as it’s such a well known spot, many tourists choose to just sit and people watch, which can be quite funny. Lincoln Road has a great ambiance and had plenty of shops to explore, selling everything from budget to designer names. I managed to buy a few little summer dresses and Billy got some unusual t-shirts. There were also some great little shops selling really well made handbags. When the sun set we walked down Ocean Drive and saw all of the hotels shining with neon lights. It has such an unworldly atmosphere, and there are some fantastic shops along there.

An alligator in the Everglades

Fort Lauderdale is so pretty and has some very nice beaches, but our favourite had to be Deerfield Beach where we saw the most amazing sunrise. We went to Ski Rixen, a water-ski park that, as first timers, we found so much fun. Fort Lauderdale has so many cultural attractions and beautiful parks. You really do need to visit them to appreciate them all.

We booked an airboat trip to the Everglades, that turned out to be one of the best tours we have ever been on. We were only a small group, and it made such a fantastic day. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastically answered all of our questions. The animals of the Everglades were spectacular. I didn’t realise there were so many species of bird, or turtles for that matter! The alligators did look very intimidating up close though, certainly got the adrenaline flowing slightly. A trip to the Everglades is a must for anyone visiting Miami. We had an amazing holiday and would go back at the drop of a hat.
